Leah Singer is a Canadian-born visual artist whose work ranges from printed matter to film. Lee Ranaldo is an American composer, writer, visual artist and founding member of the groundbreaking avant-rock group Sonic Youth. Since the early 1990s, the New York-based pair have collaborated on many works exploring audio/visual performance and installation, including: Drift, a live film and music performance which toured the world for over a decade, iloveyouihateyou, an audio-visual installation created for Magasin3 in Stockholm, and sight unseen, a video and music performance which premiered at Toronto’s Nuit Blanche in 2010. They have also published a number of books together, the most recent being Water Days (Dis Voir, Paris, 2010).
The Music Gallery is proud to present the North American premiere of tonight’s presentation, Contre Jour. This piece conjures the memory of Brion Gysin and his Dream Machine and was first presented at the Contour festival in Mechelen, Belgium in September 2011.
Presented with the support of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism’s Celebrate Ontario program. Co-presented with InterAccess & the Images Festival.
