Lyrics   status: confirmed

See a dog star jiving like he's magic snatching
Keeps me up awake a crystal cracking
I can't wait, I can't stay a candle
Gotta change my mind before it burns out

I'm the cocker on the rock
Wind is whipping thru my stupid mop

See a falling snow girl walking Broadway
Turns the corner at 14 and I know there's no way
It's alright, it's a lighted candle
And I'll know she'll be okay by someday

I'm the cocker on the rock
Humming bells start chiming in yr electric clock

It's safe to say candle
Tonight's the day candle
It's alright now candle
The wind's away candle
Never thought I'd see a dog star falling

I'm the cocker on the rock
Wind is whipping thru my stupid mop

  • Working title: "I'm the Cocker"
  • One of the working titles for Daydream Nation was "Tonight's The Day", a lyric from Candle. Interesting to note that "Tonight's the Night" is the title of a classic Neil Young LP.
  • The title "Candle" references the imagery used on the album cover as well.
  • A video for this song was directed by Kevin Kerslake.
  • Jim played guitar on this song while he was in the band.
  • The song was resurrected in 2002 and alternated w/ Cotton Crown as the opening song for that tour.

  • On "Candle" 12" - EDIT - 3:55

Also used for video. Intro removed, instrumental possibly trimmed.

  • On Mix Tape #8 - EARLY VERSION - 8:31

A very, very early sketch of what could become Candle. Recorded at band practice 1988, possibly from unreleased "Rehearsin' For Ya" cassette?

  • On "Daydream Nation" deluxe disc - LIVE - 5:03

Recorded live on 11/05/88 in Chicago, IL.
