NOTES:
- In 1997, Sonic Youth began to compose music
that was, on the whole, lengthy and instrumental.
Of course, most of these instrumentals got
vocal treatment when they were released a year
later on the "A Thousand Leaves" LP, but in the past,
Sonic Youth had never played nearly an entire set
of unreleased instrumental music. At the same time,
they had started the SYR label and were releasing
some of this music on colorful EPs. "Anagrama"
was the first such release.
- Anagrama is the only song on SYR1 to be
performed live (the live versions were shortened
by about 2 minutes), and one of only 2 songs to
remain instrumental after their performances in
1997 (Stil was the other, on SYR2) and it stayed in
the set through-out the entire Thousand Leaves tour.
- Steve introduces some new percussion devices
he's picked up, including a clay drum.
- I've heard about but not seen a Singapore release
of A Thousand Leaves that features a live version
of Anagrama (and is potentially a pirate). Anybody
know anything about this?
