Andrea Dworkin was right, USA is a rape culture

A woman who stood up to TSA screeners and refused to allow them to grope her or her 14 year old daughter has been found guilty of “disorderly conduct” and sentenced to one year of probation by a court in Tennessee.Back in July 2011, Andrea Fornella Abbott of Clarksville, was arrested by Nashville airport authorities for expressing outrage at the TSA procedures.
A police report stated that Abbott would not allow her daughter to be “touched inappropriately” or have her “crotch grabbed”. Abbott also refused to submit to a full body scan, saying that she did not want her or her daughters’ naked bodies revealed by the scanner.
The report noted that she attempted to take cell phone video of the incident but was prevented from doing so by the TSA screeners.
When police were called to the scene, Abbott reportedly cursed at them and referred to the TSA screeners as pedophiles, leading to her arrest.
The Associated Press reports that the prosecution argued that Abbott’s behavior “prevented others from carrying out their lawful activities,” and held up two security lines for thirty minutes.
“You can speak your mind, but you can’t do it in an illegal manner,’ said Assistant District Attorney Megan King, adding “What the defendant did was a crime.”
The defense argued that Abbot was exercising her right to free speech. “Telling a police officer your opinion, even in strong language, to me that’s a First Amendment right,” Abbot’s attorney Brent Horst told reporters.

and people running for Senator are claiming that abortions in the case of rape are unnecessary because if they got pregnant through a rape then "God must have wanted that to happen."

Ignorance, or willful evil, abounds, keeping the pedophiles in play

While indeed there is a strong underlying sentiment of rape culture in America, this is not an instance of it. This rather, is an example of American Exceptionalism and further the self-centered view of most Americans. In 90% of other airports around the world, getting a pat-down is no big deal. It is standard procedure in most public spaces. It is not personal, it is not vindictive, it is not morally irrehensible, it is a fact of living in a dangerous world. When I go to the bar or the club, I get a pat down. I don't accuse the doorman of being a fag, I just accept it as part of getting into the club. Would it be nice not to get the pat down? Probably. Is it anything personal? Hardly, dude is just doing his job. Are TSA security folks assholes? No doubt. Are they raping people with these pat-downs, seriously do I even need to ask that question

The vast and overwhelming majority of people in the world would think we were pussies for even crying about getting patted down at the airport, again, it is standard procedure in 150 other countries.. Further, in places where there really IS RAPE CULTURE such as in the Congo or Sierra Leone, women who were raped there would probably LAUGH out loud at the weakness of Americans in this regard. Such women have been raped, maimed, and assaulted, and they don't go around crying about inconveniences like a pat-down at the airport..

gast30 10.24.2012 05:31 PM

the piont is that this mother don't like her young daughter to be touched by ??? questionable suspious strangers

if strangers wear a uniform or not

who you take to do the job
and the basic of this problem that is grown out of terrorist useing plaines as a weapon
is the responsibility of the goverment
wich is a big failure on security
if you take airplaines or nucliar plants
it is one big failure

if they don't take the security serious and hire the right people to do the job
and the correct way to control people and respect them at the same time

then they who are responsible are the ones to blaim

i won't say america is a rape culture

that is a bridge too far
there are many american people who are good
and doing there best for everyone on this planet

like you have good people spread all over the people

stay positive

alot of shit can happen all over the world
and then help and understanding is needed
to solve the problems as fast as possible
so we can move out of the trouble past
and get into the bright future

everyone wants a good future

stay positive were ever you are on the planet
the good is stronger then the bad/evil

You miss the point, suchfriends, you found the dots but you don't connect them. And I'm sorry you find it so important to accept the tyranny. But I will assert again, this country has a culture of rape - any unwanted and forced sexual interaction is my definition - Look how often prison rape figures as humor in our culture. Its acceptable. Its cultural.

The recent court-ordered release of 14,500 pages’ worth of alleged abuse cases that took place within the organizational structure of the Boy Scouts of America between 1959 and 1985 is sending shock waves throughout the country, as they reveal some shocking facts about how such cases were improperly handled by local authorities. It turns out that local prosecutors, police chiefs, and even pastors protected alleged pedophiles from being being investigated and arraigned in order to protect the valued reputation of the Scouts organization.
The release of the files, which was the result of a recent Oregon Supreme Court ruling, reveals that potentially hundreds of scoutmasters and other Scouts leaders molested or otherwise violated young Scouts, but were never prosecuted for their alleged crimes. According to a review compiled by Dr. Janet Warren, a psychiatrist from the University of Virginia, some 1,600 victims are contained in the files, which were previously held confidentially by Boy Scouts headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

People who refuse to accept security routines, that everybody else is perfectly happy with, always takes the moral high ground as a means to deflect whatever they're hiding. And they're always hiding something. Bitch got what she deserved.

you are right tesla
you making it clear that for example the jokes made by people who a raped in jail is something accepted

it is a destruction on mass scale what they did to the boys of the scouts
and these people walk free

someone who steals a carradio or smokes some weed get in jail
the law is rotten

what are the next generation of young people that study law in university
going to do?

do they know the law to protect victims and bring justice for them?

that is what justice system is designed for

last week a belgium priest is been to court in case of sexual abuse of 2 orfins in an orfinage for some years

the priest sez, spoken trough his lawyer, that the priest is punished enough for his crime for appearing publicly in court for the sexual abuse case
and so stay free from going to jail or any other kind of punishment

so the priest comes to court plead guilty and that is it
walks out and is free

there is something defenitivly wrong with the justice system and with the protection of childeren and youth

for example if you publicly say to the youth "don't sell your body, say NO to human traffic, say NO to prostitution, say NO to the sex industry, say NO to guns"
^^ this normally would be appriciated by parents

the people who loose money in this prostitution, humantraffic, weapon traffic
will protest against it and try to play the smart ape and come with santa claus stories why you should listen to them
they only won't say that they make you their slave for the money or other hidden activities like coverup of criminal activities and keeping the population stupid

the more stupid you are
the easy'r you will be a slave

Rob Instigator 10.26.2012 10:49 AM

remember that in USA, for the longest, it was considered impossible for a husband to rape his wife. She OWED him the pussy.

these types of sentiments are what keep child abuse and incest just below the surface, with countless children being destroyed.

floatingslowly 10.26.2012 11:08 AM

What if you WANT the TSA to pat you down? What if you're just dressed really sexy for the flight???

Still rape???

Yes/No

Rob Instigator 10.26.2012 11:11 AM

what if the lady and her daughter were afraid that the dark folk who do the security checks were gonna touch them and they would catch their cooties?

floatingslowly 10.26.2012 11:19 AM

Dark folk.....and their prying fingers....

I was once put into a TSA raperoom over an (empty) condom wrapper. My bad for trying to pick up before I left.

Broham, tyranny is police brutality on the streets, tyranny is 2.1 million people currently incarcerated, tyranny is having to accept a president with a hit list, tyranny is being run by corporations, tyranny is when the racist superstructure supports one race over another, BUT PLEASE DON'T TRIVIALIZE TYRANNY BY EQUATED IT WITH A PAT DOWN AT THE AIRPORT. It just proves all the more how selfish, lazy, and stupid most Americans are. Again at MOST airports in MOST places in the world, because of American drugs, guns, and money, various terrorists and militias run rampant and so folks have to get a pat-down at the airport. Why should Americans suddenly be so different from about 1 BILLION other people in the world? that is precisely what makes me so upset with most Americans, it is their bullshit sense of ENTITLEMENT that pisses me off, it is so unwarranted. You sir then missed the point, this isn't about freedom, its about entitlement.

Besides of which, we can discuss the concept of a rape culture in America, but again, pat downs in the airport aren't an example or evidence of such..

fugazifan 10.26.2012 05:48 PM

i dont think that being against an airport pat down disqualifies being against other forms of oppression. i think that someone has a right to say that they do not wish to be felt up by a tsa agent and especially not to want their daughter's crotch to be grabbed. that has nothing to do with enlightenment culture, except that yet, people should be entitled to say whether they want to be felt up by a stranger or not.

and i quite often travel through the israeli airport, probably an airport with some of the tightest security and i have never been felt up or touched inappropriately ( i am however a white jewish male) which airports are the 90% that you were referring to?

That is the give away, ask an Arab about Israeli security, but then again, your a rather conscious Israeli so I'm sure you were well aware..

I am sorry if I am getting upset, but shit like this to me both trivializes the issues or rape culture and police-brutality in America. It seems every American wants to be a victim now. Fuck that. Real 14 year old girls are raped and molested by authority figures, including cops EVERY single day. This was not that. Real people are harrassed, beaten, or killed by dickhead power hungry law enforcement EVERY single day. Lets not trivialize these issues by even remotely comparing a matter of personal inconvenience at American airports...

I may have exaggerated the 90% part, but indeed at a lot of airports all over the world folks get a pat down. Is it inconvenient? Yes. Is it mandatory? Not always, only if you don't go through the x-rays or the sniffer booth. So they give you an option. Are TSA saints? Of course not. But again, whenever I am in an airport here in the US I can't help but laugh at how entitled Americans feel, and how their gripes are more often than not a matter of pride or laziness, not core aspects of freedom. Believe, nobody hates police-state authority or has a lack of trust for the government than me, but in all honesty, TSA pat downs at the airport are the least of my concerns. The local police were just exonerated by a federal judge for killing by shooting an unarmed person in the back, where is his freedom exactly? What does a pat-down have to do with that reality? I bet those same Americans crying about pat-downs are the same "law and order" motherfuckers who support their local police brutality with the "he probably deserved it attitudes" ;)

motherfucking most Americans are inborn hypocrites, and have a culture oriented around convenience, not freedom. When push comes to shove, it is not the pat-down itself most people are upset about, it is the hassle and inconvenience. The woman and her daughter were given options, they choice neither. If it were my daughter, we'd be c-walking through the x-ray machine towards the A-group boarding and not wasting time to get a aisle seat...
