Lyrics   status: confirmed

Smile like the sun
Back over time
Crazy on you
Pleasure is mine

I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?
I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?

You're comin' thru
Even it up
Going too far
Try to understand

I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?
I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?

Whisper that kisses yr ear
Tell you what I fear
Whisper that kisses yr ear
I'll tell you what I fear

Come on home
Just ain't fair
In the name of rock and roll
Where love dies
Couldn't find a soul
Tell it like it is
Deep down inside
Drunken butterfly

I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?
I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?
I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?
I love you, I love you
I love you, what's your name?

NOTES:

  • Working title: "Barracuda"
  • The lyrics to this song were literally taken from song titles or lyrics by the band Heart (who, as the working title suggests, the band thought the song was reminiscent of)
  • A fan-made video was created (for some type of MTV contest?). It saw release on "The Sonic Compile", a 4-song video cassette that came w/ some Australian versions of "A Thousand Leaves".
  • The only Kim-sung song released as a single from Dirty (it was the last single, as well).
  • Guitar Dude Stuff: One of very few, if any, songs where Kim alters the tuning of her bass (and in this case it was to mimic the guitar tuning: F#F#GA).
  • Performed on Later with Jools Holland, 12/3/92.
  • Sonic Youth played a "secret" show in NYC on 7/3/92 billed as "Drunken Butterfly".
  • After an 8 year hibernation, Sonic Youth resurrected Drunken Butterfly in 2001, with Jim on bass, freeing Kim to dance around a la Kool Thing.

ALTERNATE VERSIONS:

  • "Barracuda" - DEMO - 4:22

An instrumental version recorded during demo sessions for 'Dirty' at SY's Hoboken rehearsal space.

  • On "Westwood One" radio disc - LIVE - ?

Recorded live on 1/24/93 in Melbourne, Australia @ Big Day Out festival.
