Dreaming, dreaming of a girl like me
Hey what are you waiting for?
Feeding, feeding me
I feel like I'm disappearing
Getting smaller every day
But I look in the mirror
And I'm bigger in every way

You aren't never going anywhere
You aren't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere

I'm in heaven now, I can see you Richard
Goodbye Hollywood, goodbye Downey
Hello Elvis, hello Janis
And all my brand new friends
I'm so glad you're here with me
Til the end

Dreaming, dreaming of how I'm supposed to be
But now this tunic's spinning
Around my arms and knees
I feel like I'm disappearing
Getting smaller every day
But I look in the mirror
And I'm bigger in every way

You aren't never going anywhere
You aren't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere

Now I'm dead
I can see you
I can see you mom, and dad, and Richard
And I remember mom, what you said
"Don't let it.. don't let it go to your head"

Another green salad, another iced tea
There's a tunic in the closet waiting for me
I feel like I'm disappearing
Getting smaller every day
But I look in the mirror
And I'm bigger in every way

You aren't never going anywhere
You aren't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere
I ain't never going anywhere

Richard, are you there?
I can't see
Is this how it was meant to be?
I can still hear mama's voice, she said:
"Honey, don't let it go to your head"

NOTES:

  • "Tunic" 8-track demo recorded in November 1989 @ Waterworks in NYC.
  • The Carpenters songs sung by Kim and J. Mascis (and Don Fleming?) during the song's instrumental mid-section are much more prominent on the demo version than on the album, where they're fairly buried. Among other songs, "They Long to be Close to You" can be heard.
  • The Waterworks demos were all remixed by Jim O'Rourke & SY for the 2005 Goo deluxe reissue. In many cases, the difference is significant.
