Lyrics   status: sorta confirmed

Well we can't take her this week
And her friends all want another speech
Hopin' for a better day to hear
What she's gotta say
All about that personality crisis
You got it while it was hot
But now frustration and heartache
Is what you got
Talkin talkin talkin talkin
Personality, personality

Now you're trying to be something
Now you've gotta do something
Wanna be someone cow wow wow...
Thinkin' bout the times you did
They took every ounce
Well it sure got to be a shame
When you start to scream and shout
Gotta contradict all those times
You butterflyin' about
Cute as a butterfly
Got a personality crisis
You got it while it was hot
It's always hard you know
Frustration and heartache
Is what you got
It's what I'm talkin talkin
Personality, personality (yeah yeah yeah)

And you're a prima ballerina
On a spring afternoon
Change on into the wolfman
Howlin at the moon awwwwooooooooo
Got a personality crisis
You got it while it was hot
So hard you know frustration and heartache
Is what you got
Talkin' bout personality (yeah yeah yeah)

Now with all the gruesome faith
That mother nature sends
Your mirrors jammed up
With all your friends
Personality everything is starting to blend
Awww back to one
Personality when your mind starts to bend
Personality fashion of a friend
Of a friend of a friend of a friend
Of a friend
Personality wonderin' how celebrities ever mend
Lookin' fine on television
Personality crisis, got it while it was hot
Frustration and heartache is all you got
Don't worry...
Personality crisis, please don't cry
Personality crisis, please don't stop
Because you walk with personality
Talk with personality

Track length: 3:50

First Known Performance: 11/02/91
Last Known Performance:  11/02/91

NOTES:

  • Originally performed by the New York Dolls.
  • Recorded in July 1990.
  • Not sure who plays what on this, though I'm pretty sure Thurston plays bass on the live version. Certainly a strange mix, w/ 2 tracks of Kim's vocals, one of which is featured exclusively with the bass drum in the right speaker (piano, acoustic guitar, and the rest of the drum kit are heard in the left speaker). Occasionally fuzzy samples of the original NY Dolls version pop into the mix. They may have recorded this like many of their other covers, by starting with the original song and recording pieces overtop of it.
  • The Sassy flexi featured Personality Crisis on one side and the short demo version of Dirty Boots on the other side.
  • Performed live only once, at the 1991 Bridge Benefit (after abandoning Cinderella's Big Score, which was falling apart acoustically). Reportedly Kim smashed a guitar, screamed "FUCK!" and walked offstage.
