NOTES
This is a Blast First "complication" that's pretty heavy on the Sonic Youth content -- in addition to 3 SY tracks ("Come And Smash Me Said The Boy With The Magic Penis" & "Magic Wand", recorded in 1985 for a 1986 Peel Session, and "He's on Fire" from the Master-Dik EP), there's an exclusive Ciccone Youth outtake ("****") and a Lee Ranaldo vinyl scratch freakout. But things don't stop there... scope out the scans of the vinyl sleeve, where the liners virtually revolve around Sonic Youth and include a great shot of them wearing Disney masks (at least I think that's them). But that's not all:
Prior to Sonic Youth's opening track, there's a faux "Rock Music Report" introduction cautioning listeners about what lies ahead...
Following Lee's "Scratchy Heart" at the end of the vinyl side 1 is a sample from Claude Bessy's speech at the beginning of "The Walls Have Ears" -- his line "there's no fucking culture there" repeats endlessly in a locked groove.
At the end of side 2, prior to the destructive live version of "Jimi" by the Butthole Surfers is a brief snippet of an answering machine message left by Steve Shelley for Paul Smith.
The CD version of the album features all songs on one track, explaining on the back: "NO PROGRAM FORMULA FOR YOU PAL, LIKE IT OR LUMP IT...SO FEW OF THE TRAX ON HERE HAVE BEEN RELEASED BEFORE THAT THEY'RE NOT EVEN WORTH MARKING...ANNOYING ISN'T IT?"
Various tracks from this compilation were released on a 7" box set called "Devil's Jukebox".
Etchings:
- Side 1: "ACID BUNNY HITCH BOMB"
- Side 2: "A LOVE SUPREME IN DAYGLO"
