Steve Shelley will perform with Chris Lee and Tim Luntzel this Friday June 10 at the Living Room in NYC. 8pm is showtime. Text of Light, featuring Lee Ranaldo, Alan Licht, William Hooker, and Roger Miller will perform July 23 in Kansas City at the Farenheit Ballroom. Lee is part of a group art show entitled 'Crossed Circuits' at the Hogar Collection gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The show opened April 23. More information here. SONIC YOUTH AWARDED BY LOWER MANHATTAN CULTURAL COUNCIL Sonic Youth recieved honors from The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, a non-profit which promotes arts and culture in downtown New York City on May 5. Others honored at the dinner included Senators Hilary Clinton and Chuck Schumer. Thursday, May 5 at 5pm Thurston will be signing copies of the new book he has edited, entitled Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture at the Virgin Mega Store in Union Square, NYC. Ecstatic Peace, Thurston's record label, will host a night of words and music Saturday, May 7. The site will be the Apollo Grill at Eastworks in Easthampton, MA. More info about the event here. Lee will perform with films April 30 at the Festival Internacional de Spoken Word 'La Musica y La Palabra' in Seville, Spain. Other performers include Lydia Lunch and John Giorno. SUMMER 2005- SONIC YOUTH LIVESY will travel to Barcelona to perform at the Primavera festival on May 28. Not only are Iggy and the Stooges, Christina Rosenvinge, Text of Light, and Erase Errata among the acts to perform, but the Gang of Four will take the stage right after SY. Sonic Youth are excited to announce they will play their first ever shows in Turkey: May 30 in Istanbul at Venue Maslak, and May 31 in Ankara at Saklikent. After Turkey, Sonic Youth will travel to Saint Brieuc, France to perform at the Art Rock Festival. On June 2, the band members will perform in some non-SY groups: Kim and Thurston will perform as Mirror-Dash. Lee and Steve will perform with Text of Light, along with Alan Licht, Tim Barnes, and Ulrich Krieger. Jim O will do stuff. On June 3, SY will play as the full rock unit. SY will then perform at two festivals in Germany: June 4 at the Rock Am Ring Festival in Nurburgring, and June 5 at the Rock Im Park Festival in Nurnberg. The band returns for more dates in Europe: June 24 SY are at Le Rock Dans Tous ses Etats festival in Eveux, France. June 26 they are at the Rockwave festival in Athens, Greece. On the 27th, the band will be in Ferrara, Italy at the Piazza Castello, and on the 28th in La Spezia at the Pop Eye Festival. June 30 and July 1, Sonic Youth will perform at the Roskilde festival in Denmark. And on July 2, SY is at the Open Air St-Gallen, Switzerland. July 3 will see the band in Belfort for the Eurockeennes de Belfort. One more European trip brings SY to the Oya Festival in Oslo, Norway on August 12. Also performing that day are the Diskaholics Anonymous Trio: Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, and Mats Gustafsson. On this trip, Sonic Youth will perform on the 14th in St. Malo, France at La Route Du Rock, on the 19th in Dublin at Marlay Park with the Chemical Brothers, and at the V festivals in England, on the 20th in Chelmsford, and on the 21st in Stafford. In the fall, Sonic Youth bring the rock to Europe one more time with concerts in honor of John Lennon on October 26 and 27 at the Cite de la Musique in Paris.
