SONIC ON PBS, DEMONLOVER IN AMERICA Beginning September 18, PBS stations across the nation will begin airing the episode of Soundstage SY shot with Wilco a few months back. To find out when your local affiliate will bring the rock, log on to PBS. The next day Demonlover, the film by Olivier Assayas with the score by Sonic Youth will be released in North America. The film will open September 19th in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. On September 26 Boston and beyond will have the chance to get hip. Kim will be presenting a collaborative installation with Jutta Koether entitled "The Club in the Shadow" from September 7t to October 12th, 2003 at Kenny Schachter conTEMPorary gallery, 14 Charles Lane, New York, NY. conTEMPorary gallery is close to the Westside Highway and in the shadow of the Richard Meier Towers. The Club in the Shadow is proposed as a neighborhood art club, clubhouse offering culture and entertainment to the proposed residents of the Towers, i.e. Calvin Klein, Nicole Kidman, Martha Stewart, etc. The installation will change and mutate through various performances and impromtu gatherings. According to the artists: "The club, designed by Vito Acconci, reminded us of 80's clubs like Danceteria that were in turn inspired by the notion of utopias, a pursuit that helped in the development of skyscrapers. Each floor could offer a different vision or fantasy. In this case on the ground floor, poetry and noise events, video projection and performances by various bands will take place along with a nook with a permanent installation of amps and guitars for people to just come in and play music together. Upstairs will be a video lounge where each week a different person will curate the week's program." "Different notions of exclusivity and "party themes" with brand name sponsership will be de-constructed along with the idea of "entertainment" itself. In the spirit of this we will be selling private club membership cards for a dollar. The Club in the Shadow will open un Sunday, Sept. 7th with performances by the Hawnay Troof." More info here.
