Pendulum Music note by Lee for Ellipsis Arts CD

Pendulum Music was a piece I had long been aware of—mainly from Reich's book 'Writings About Music'—but never heard. When we taped the piece we weren't sure it had ever been recorded before. We had to make a few attempts as swinging microphones kept slamming into the stands and interrupting the piece! The odd thing is, having known of the piece only from it's written description, it sounded exactly as I pictured it would once we had it down. It had always seemed an important early piece in Reich's oeuvre (in a way directly forseeing the phase pieces which came later), and indicative of the free spirit and experimentation of the time as well.
