After posting my question, I watched a clip on Hulu and I didn't think much of it. I paid 99 cents for this rental, so I will watch all four episodes on it, but it's really going to grab my attention for me to rent any others.

I doubt anything is a good substitute for, Breaking Bad

It is a pretty bizarre series overall. Pretty low budget in places but I suppose you could kind of expect that of early 90's Danish television.

It's quite slow to start with but once it gets going its great. Shame they never made the final series because two of the main actors died.

I would recommend it though.

I'm pissed!

My DVD rental only had the pilot on it ? ? ? ? ? ?

I enjoyed it and think I will rent / watch some more.

I understand, however, I believe some of these lessons are based on truth. My wife and her parents own a flower shop. Weekly people walk in having to order flowers for a funeral. The funeral / death wasn't usually something they were expecting. Even if they knew the person was going to pass, they still wasn't ready for the reality of it all.

Not sure if I can withstand the whole "danish" thing

i just had hernia surgery so my girlfriend got a bunch of dvd's from the library for me (she's the best!) while i recover and one of them was the movie AWAY WE GO. it was godawful, they tried to make EVERY single goddamn scene so meaningful by playing like nick drake type music in the background. when everything is SOOO heavy in every scene it kind of dilutes everything. it was awful!

End of Watch

I enjoyed this more the first time I saw it. Michael Pena is still great though. I hope he gets a proper leading role some time.

It's by far the best thing I've seen by him. It's amazing how original a film can be without ever doing anything particularly fancy, and I doubt it was THAT expensive either. Majority of the dialogue consists of thoughts that haunt and overwhelm the prisoner (based on Andre Devigny). The film is very authentic, and apparently Bresson used notes that were written down by Devigny during his time incarcerated. If I'm not mistaken, Bresson himself was imprisoned for a year or something, which evidently had to have a profound effect on the accuracy of the film. Already knowing the end result, as I was vaguely familiar with the story it's based on, I was still enthralled by the whole thing thanks to Bresson's filmmaking. The sounds of the prison, including one officer in particular who would persistently rattle the key to each door on the bars of the staircase as he walked up, served as a soundtrack to the film in a sense. The man is trapped in a small room, his limitations forcing him to communicate a great deal with the world outside through sound. You hear sounds of prisoners being executed, for instance. But it's the long excruciating moments of silence that cause the most anguish, and Bresson goes deep into the mind of this prisoner as his situation continuously keeps it busy. Which brings me to the brief periods where Bresson used music... it's my understanding that Bresson was against the use of music in films, believing they'd take away from the images and natural sounds, disrupting what he was attempting to communicate to the audience. But due to this being one of his earlier film, perhaps that's something he developed later on. Either way, the ending Spoiler Alert is probably the most stunning shot I've ever seen to close a film. After "Fontaine" has escaped with the young boy, they walk off into the darkness as this fog ascends and covers up the screen. It's certainly a film you never get tired of. His attention to detail is astonishing.

Sunshine State

Bits of this are great but by the end of it I felt like I'd watched an adaptation of a Carl Hiaasen novel that'd had all the humour taken out.

^^Murmer, I pretty much agree with everything you say about Man Escaped. Although I wouldn't worry too much about spoilers, given the film's own title effectively gives the ending away.
