^ Never heard of it. Any good?
(Although even if it's not, I love John Goodman so much I'll watch it anyway.) |

By the way, do most people have TCM in their cable package? Is Turner Classic Movies a US-only company?
If enough people have it, I think it warrants its own thread. Everyday there's something really great on. |

I love Goodman as well! Even though his roll is small, it's he and Tommy Lee in Louisiana, so it can't help but be good : ) The movie is a little odd and I was surprised I had not heard anything about it with such big names and it being released in 2009. Kelly Macdonald who appeared in, No Country For Old Men with Tommy Lee is also in this movie. It mostly takes place South of I-10, so lots of great scenery of swamps and what not......speaking of, I will be in New Orleans next week. Our cable package has TCM and I do watch it from time to time. When I go to bed in the mornings, if an old black and white is on, I set the sleep timer for 30 minutes and TCM sends me off to NeverNever Land. |

Its based loosely on a book by James Lee Burke, a really good series about Robicheaux... Last night I finished Hobo With A Shotgun. "You have you whole life ahead of you, I'M JUST A HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN". absolutely not for children or sensitive types.

District 9:
The acting was terrible, like fodder for MST3K bad, but the effects and production was fairly decent. I generally despise CGI oriented movies, I'd love to see somebody get some balls and make an old James Cameron puppets/sets/make-up movie rather than a James Cameron 2.0 CGI disaster..

FALLING DOWN
on a side note anyone got the dvd of the fanedit called UNDER CONSTRUCTION at all? i got shitloads to trade via snail mail incase you never heard of it before. it basically follows D-FENS around and that's it. the cops don't show up until the end of the movie. i'm sure it's out there on the internet, but can anyone hook me up? and no, it's not on Cinemageddon |

The cop in la confidential is the one played by Russell Crowe. A thug with a badge, effectively. My general rule of thumb is the less I'd condone their actions in real life, the more I'll like them on screen - although the older I get the more I wouldn't mind the idea of a few real life Popeyes patrolling the streets of London. Another obvious candidate for top cop is 'Dirty' Harry Callahan. |

Love Scorsese's lyricism and passion here. Paul Newman is surprisingly good in this film as well. Glad I checked it out, as I feel it's easily one of Scorsese's best efforts. |

![]() What a brilliant job Bunuel does at combining reality and dream intricately together. They both go hand in hand in this film, to the point where you never know for sure about whether it's Belle De Jour's dream, her fantasy, her husband's dream, or if what's happening is reality itself. It calls for another watch, but it was pretty inspiring. Catherine Deneuve is wonderfully complex in this. |

Completely agree. One of Scorsese's most underrated films, IMO. Paul Newman is brilliant. It'd make a great double bill with Hard Eight. |
