2 years ago at my last job my boss (he has pretty good taste, he's a Deadhead) and I were discussing my love for Juliette Lewis and he asked if I had seen Kalifornia, and I hadn't so he told me to watch it. I watched it a couple weeks later, I instantly fell in love with, and just now rewatched it. He never told me David Duchovny was in it! Growing up in to 90's watching X-Files, and I had mad manlove for David, still do! So that there is a one two punch. Seems like a solid film forgotten in the waste of the 90's. Duchovny's opposite played by Michelle Forbes, seals the film as a untouchable combination of skill along side Pitt and Lewis. Pitt is one the few mainstream actors that can always cook up a great character and breathe life into them, and his white trash tailerpark trash is one best white trash tailerpark trash characters in the history of film. Lots of laughs and great dialogue between, my love, Juliette Lewis. Not such mind bending plot and anything to outlandish but its delivery is fresh, with it coming from the stellar cast makes for a really great film.

Beyond The Black Rainbow.

HIGHEST recommendation.
I saw it at a tiny 30-seat specialty theater here in town, and it was easily the best newer movie I have seen in about five years. Totally perfectly stylized genre-fuck amazement. Equal parts Altered States, Kenneth Anger, Clockwork Orange and Unarius, with a great Goblin/Tangerine Dream worshipping soundtrack. See it. See it now.

Wow, never heard of that one but your description of it presses all manner of buttons for me. Definitely one for my must see list. Awesome.

I just read a review saying it should be "avoided like the plague". I'm even more desperate to see it now.

I'd add Shivers. It's probably my fave of all his films. I really don't understand why it has such a low profile, even with a lot of Cronenberg fans.

Chumlum

Ron Rice doesn't seem to have the same profile as Anger or Warhol or Jack Smith but I definitely think Chumlum puts him up there.

The full 20 minute film is here ...

I don't want to influence your expectations but I hated it. The movie’s only redeeming qualities are JD's posterior and the scenes where he hides behind some rocks and bushes in the countryside.* Other than that I found this movie super tedious and I had to watch it in two takes to get to the end because I fell asleep the first time.

* Most homoerotic thing I have ever said on this forum.

I'm not that surprised, to be honest. I'll still watch it just out of curiosity but, yeah, I wasn't expecting anything great from it. Of all the superstars associated with Warhol, I probably find Joe Dallesandro the least interesting. The others all had overblown personalities that could usually help carry even the most mundane films but JD struck me as being no more than a sex symbol really.

He's always been Paul Morrissey's creature. Warhol only liked his good looks and PM had a thing for his cinematic face. I understand where he comes from with that but the guy is a terrible actor, and he just looks good on camera, no good acting skills whatsoever. I took him off my friends' list on FB a few years ago, when he didn't have a fan page proper which wouldn't bombard my news feed with his terrible taste in everything and old skool attention seeking. Good riddance. He does have an incredible arse though, I have to admit.

Perfectly put. He did have an incredible face but never the personality to carry a film. Quite unusual for a Superstar. As you say, he looks good on camera. In another age he'd have probably made his fortune as a catwalk model but he really doesn't work in film. Saying that, he was probably ideal for Warhol's Screen Tests, although I've never seen any that he might've done. It's disappointing really, that of all the Superstars, it was the least interesting and talented one who probably had the biggest career post their connection with Warhol.

EDIT: Besides Mary Woronov, who I absolutely love.
