Other than the Thurston & Loren 12", is there anything sonic related this year? I don't find myself very excited about much this year, maybe the Pink Floyd 7" or the Doors/X Soul Kitchen split 7". I would have liked it if they'd used a little more imagination for the Hendirx 7" (Hey Joe). The Malkmus/Jicks cover of Ege Bamyashi LP is interesting in idea, but I'm not sure how much I'd pay to hear it. Are any of the original Jicks still in the band?

what i mean to say is that vinyl is OBVIOUSLY obsolete and should be replaced with FLAC/WAV or whatever other uncompressed formats you want that can be stored on hds then eventually clouds and streamed by anyone on hopefully superior and more portable equipment.

and this approach is even more against your imagined corporate agenda and in favour of real people. you'll have noticed that the average person can no longer afford to spend $20 on an individual LP. food and electricity take priority.

There is no "imagined" corporate agenda, the corporates purposely stopped manufacturing vinyl and forced everyone to use CD in the 90's. people like me continued to buy vinyl from our indie sources when we could.

all formats are compressed one or an other - I always thought .wav were uncompressed but there seem to be ways of making them denser or not. But FLACS are certainly compressed. Thats why they are used!

There are no such thing as "clouds" you know. It is just a bank of servers somewhere, susceptible to all the problems any servers/computers are susceptible to. Vinyl is a personal artifact. I love it so.

no not in theory, in reality the cloud and streaming and d/ling onto hds are all cheaper than fucking vinyl lps. which also are not portable and are clunky and awkward and break easily and no longer practical etc. etc.

i dont care what you were doing in the past, it's going to die out. its already obsolete and only kept alive by the ingrained habits and nostalgia of older people. young people will not give a shit. sure vinyl has a certain coolness but they wont bother paying for it.

i must be missing something because i thought FLAC was uncompressed. Whatever, digital formats better than vinyl are not a pipe dream.

and people do still owe things. they own their phones which they listen to music on. they'll own whatever device exists in the future and it wont be a fucking vinyl record player.

and btw corporations dont give a shit about 'controlling us', they exist solely to make profit. so they could care less whatever the fuck we do as long as they can make money. buying vinyl is not some noble counter cultural gesture that allows you to bypass the corporate world.

sheet music has not died out, even with the advent of radio, tablature, phonograph, internet, etc.

a digital file is only as good as the program to "play it back" is. every digital format still requires you find the correct driver, and the proper machine to use that driver on. N o different than Vinyl and turntables.

i cannot wait for laser turntables that will play an LP without touching the surface! Those will rule. I know they exist now, but not in a mass-produced item, affordable for reg peeps.
