This treatment has always been considered torture and the fact that it was meted out by Obama shouldn’t change the definition.

the question i want to aggressively put to the anti drone people is this - so do you want to go BACK to a time before drones? do you want to go back to warfare between men on a battlefield? the answer is obviously no. so then you will get half hearted calls for "regulation" etc. etc. and people will just go back to praying that these things are used by the "right" people or the "right" people can stop the bad people using them.

if bush was still in office, you'd have fox news and the rest shouting "TERRORISTS! if you're so against drones you must want the terrorists to win!". Then you'd get right wing radio show hosts making sneering threats disguised as jokes about droning anti war protesters. at least with obama you have an admin that is trying to be transparent and allowing legal investigations and actually cares about justice.

the problem is that once the drones exist, the other guy is going to start building his own. then yours have to get bigger and greater in number.

farming will change because of drones. they are using them to replace the work that would otherwise have to be done by men in tractors. there will be transport drones. you might get someone like amazon using drones as couriers.

the koch bros are hyping up this surveillance drone that will fly above a city and provide panoramic 360 degree footage with the ability to zoom in at something miles away and read the small print off a piece of litter.

the answer is to programme the drones to destroy all of humanity or something i dont fucking know.

actually it's started to appear elsewhere now, i found, but the no-flight zone is for low-level aircraft (1000ft = 305m) so that rescue helicopters can move freely. aircraft above that altitude can come and go and take photos just fine.
