Other activites which took place were a screening of "Fuck You (Noise In China)" with the presence of the film's director and owner of Sub Rosa, Guy Marc Hinant, answering a round of questions from the audience (language barriers are powerful), as well as solo performances by Aurora Yaqui, Paal Nilssen-Love, and Carl Michael von Hauswolff, all preceding Joke Lanz & Lasse Marhaug. Robert Piotrowicz was the headlining act.

*Recorded, edited, and seeded by hipster_bebop_junkie.

Here's another one for you, Mike (end everybody else, for that matter). I really loved this performance. It started in a very powerful yet subtle way, and by the final stretch it sounded really massive and reached quite an exciting climax when Lasse Marhaug took the top cover off of his monitor, and just cranked it up really really loud with bursts of sort of percussive patterns and white noise, and it seemed that the speakers were just about to explode. The whole PA was taken to its limits, I guess. He was really into it, kicked off his chair away, and gave the impression he wanted to kick the living shit out of something, or just have a seizure, but maybe he had to keep it together in light of the fact that he was actually surrounded by members of the audience who were perhaps way too close to his space. That lasted only a few seconds, though. He then proceed to manipulate his gear conjuring up wild cacophonous sounds, with his eyes closed as if he was in such a trance. It was really captivating. One of the best performances of the whole Aural Festival, and really my favorite one out of the four of his that I saw last month during his visit to Mexico.

I recorded all sets from this night. My capture of Anla Courtis will follow.

Also, there are a few other recordings of recent performances by Lasse Marhaug in Norway (one of them with Maja Ratjke and another with Alex Gunia) up at 300 Acting Spaces; a project curated by Alex Gunia which aims to have 300 live performances of noise and experimental manifestations of music and its relationships with the visual arts, per year, at 5 different cities, with Oslo being the first one of them, and subsequently and in many cases providing documentation in the form of archived audio, both lossy and lossless, and sometimes with multiple sources of most shows (on SoundCloud), video (on their youtube channel), and high quality photography (on flickr), and even real-time streaming through their main site; with the final intent of publishing a book with content gathered from all these explorations. It is one of my favorite places on the Internet, an example that many should follow, and a source of bliss and discovery I would humbly recommend anyone to check it out if they are interested in noise and experimental music, most of all in the current Norwegian scene. In addition to the aforementioned recordings of Lasse Marhaug, they have soundboard captures of performances by Okkyung Lee in collaboration with Kjell Bjorgeengen, Kari Rønnekleiv, and Ole Henrik Moe (the best of the series to me); Kristoffer Lislegaard, Jon Wesseltoft, Dave Phillips, and so many others.

Official website, with accurate information, and links to their official SoundCloud, Youtube, flickr, twatter and facemook:

ANLA COURTIS
Centro Cultural de España en México
28.º Festival de México 2012
Festival Aural/El Nicho Aural
Mexico City, Mexico
Friday, May 11th, 2012

Source: Audience

Lineage: Sony PCM M-10 (Internal Mics; Recording Mode: Manual; Mic Sensitivity: Low; Limiter: On)> 24 Bits/48 KHZ .WAV > Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 9 (Normalizing) > Trader's Little Helper (encoding to .FLAC level 8, .ffp) > Mp3tag v2.49a (Tagging).

Track-list:

01.- Improvisation

Anla Courtis: Mixer, laptop, pedals, homemade instruments, bucket half-full of water, electronic devices, electric guitar.

NOTES:
*In addition to a screening of Bernard Josse's documentary film, "Soldier Of The Road-A Portrait Of Peter Brötzmann", other acts which took place this night were performances by Alexandra Cárdenas & Maria Lipkau as a duo, then solo sets by Lasse Marhaug, Anla Courtis, and Peter Brötzmann respectively.

*Some people didn't keep quiet for this performance, so there are a few incidental audience noises on certain spots. You will hear someone coughing at the very beginning, some people laughing here and there, and ocassional bits of chatter, but the most obnoxious thing is that some douchebag found it appropriate to yell Anla Courtis an insult and other shenanigans, just so that he, possibly his cronies, and surely everyone else could hear his ugly voice and be aware of his idiocy, in a quiet moment of Anla Courtis' otherwise really loud set. I still think it's an enjoyable listen, and I hope you will too.

Here's my Melvins/Big Bizness set from 7/24/08 at John Henroids in Eugene.

my recording with dpa 4061's into DAT, about 10 ft from the band on the left side balcony.

from my original file set, so nihil obstat.

[Quick copy/paste of Electrical Audio and Facemook posts:]

Semi-public service announcement:

I got fed up with continuously cross-posting download links on mailing lists and message boards, and realized that Twatter fits my message format perfectly. Hence:

http://twitter.com/live_downloads

Will endeavor (spelling?) to post at least one show a day. Requests welcome! Anyone needs a particular recent Disappears or Ranaldo show?
