Wow, another nail in a very sealed coffin. I need to sublet my apt and get out here...

They were the ballsy guys who opened up right across from Tower Records, but it made sense because they offered stuff Tower wouldn't really touch, or would have to charge more for, and they were in touch with a certain circle of djs that would buy lots of different stuff. They also were going up against Kim's and Sounds and Venus and several West Village stores I hardly ever went to. Later they opened up a store in Cambridge MA, very close to Twisted Village, which I thought was a little shark-like, but the store closed soon anyway.

I've seen a number of their in-stores - just saw White Out with Nels Cline last year.

Music is worst than its ever been, and of course I see Prince being taken off the map because he had a very positive vision for people and his tax value is worth more to the State with him dead.

There is a whole kind of culture being shut down now. A culture where people do things without expecting or being forced into immediate global virtual interaction. A culture that values actual interaction over virtual interaction. And living vs. visiting.

This is really depressing news. A friend of mine loved to mail order through them. And I was really looking forward to stopping in during my next NYC visit, a visit that keeps getting pushed back and back and definitely won't happen before June 25. At least the label part of their operation will continue. The record store experience is such a great one and it's really sad that it's become more and more scarce.

Dropped by this afternoon and picked up a Alan Licht-Tetzuki Akiyama CD "Licht-Akiyama Trios: Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow" - hitting me nicely tonite I just pressed replay. This is some German 2016 release of which I had never heard.

OM was in full production, with new stuff on hand. Up on the wall they had a big box set by "Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon Thurston Moore" for $199 and they had the box set of Paul Bowles' recordings of Moroccan music which is very attractive.

A long-time customer and more recently an employee, Jim Siegel, better known as Ning Nong, remembers the record store that shaped and nurtured his musical interests.

Really nice piece by Ning Nong.
