check out the sattelite imagery. much of the Gulf of Mexico is very shallow. the petroleum is heading to ever shallower areas, the oyster and shrimp beds.

 

what is happening in kenya and Ethiopia is the result of corrupt individuals in their governments. what is happening in the Gulf is the result of an accident by a multi-national corporation (but based in UK) that they had no plan or even idea on how to fix should such an accident occurr.

true, but the connected thread was MAN-MADE disasters, and in regards to human and ecological terms, what is happening in east Africa is far more a fucking disaster, and does it get the media coverage?

if you want me to connect the dots better, what about the human and ecological crisis in Venezuela or Ecuador from Shell and BP leaving thousands of ponds and swamps of toxic sludge across the jungles, destroying the livelihoods and causing cancer for thousands and thousands of people, let alone what it does to the environment...

my point is similar to FreshlyChopped, that this Gulf thing has been MAD HYPED, but I have yet to see the results, and NO tesla, it is not because of a lack of media/news coverage, as much as I would love to support you on this one. I do not follow EVERY conspiracy, only those with substance.

In this regard, is BP an evil bastard? of course. are they responding appropriately? of course not. Is this Gulf the worst ecological disaster of the world as some posts on this thread have suggested? Fuck no.

this blog has some interesting information: "Yet-to-be-confirmed rumors are that the casing wall has finally worn through, about 300 feet below seabed, at an annulus (coupling), and the gas and oil are now finding a new way out to the seabed." the video shows very clearly stuff bubbling up from the sea floor and not the pipe. They are going to have to blow this up and BP and the military doesn't want to do that.

what doublespeak? i stated what has been known for some time. all the plastic waste that gets dumped into the sea never completely breaks down or disappears, after a long time it turns into tiny particles that are as good as invisible to the human eye, but are extremely harmful to sealife. fish get them in their bodies, the fish gets eaten (and not only by seabirds or sharks-humans too)

the sea is turning into a very toxic soup, thanks to humanity.

I think it is extremely likely that this is the tipping point for the planet's ecology. Ocean life may not all die tomorrow but it will never recover. I truly believe that by 2050 the oceans will be dead essentially, and, coupled with our inability to reverse climate change, this will make Earth a very different place indeed, and not one where I'd enjoy being alive.

We're fucked, basically.
