check out the sattelite imagery. much of the Gulf of Mexico is very shallow. the petroleum is heading to ever shallower areas, the oyster and shrimp beds.
![]() what is happening in kenya and Ethiopia is the result of corrupt individuals in their governments. what is happening in the Gulf is the result of an accident by a multi-national corporation (but based in UK) that they had no plan or even idea on how to fix should such an accident occurr. both sucx |

true, but the connected thread was MAN-MADE disasters, and in regards to human and ecological terms, what is happening in east Africa is far more a fucking disaster, and does it get the media coverage? if you want me to connect the dots better, what about the human and ecological crisis in Venezuela or Ecuador from Shell and BP leaving thousands of ponds and swamps of toxic sludge across the jungles, destroying the livelihoods and causing cancer for thousands and thousands of people, let alone what it does to the environment... my point is similar to FreshlyChopped, that this Gulf thing has been MAD HYPED, but I have yet to see the results, and NO tesla, it is not because of a lack of media/news coverage, as much as I would love to support you on this one. I do not follow EVERY conspiracy, only those with substance. In this regard, is BP an evil bastard? of course. are they responding appropriately? of course not. Is this Gulf the worst ecological disaster of the world as some posts on this thread have suggested? Fuck no.

http://monkeyfister.blogspot.com/201...own-below.html
this blog has some interesting information: "Yet-to-be-confirmed rumors are that the casing wall has finally worn through, about 300 feet below seabed, at an annulus (coupling), and the gas and oil are now finding a new way out to the seabed." the video shows very clearly stuff bubbling up from the sea floor and not the pipe. They are going to have to blow this up and BP and the military doesn't want to do that.

what doublespeak? i stated what has been known for some time. all the plastic waste that gets dumped into the sea never completely breaks down or disappears, after a long time it turns into tiny particles that are as good as invisible to the human eye, but are extremely harmful to sealife. fish get them in their bodies, the fish gets eaten (and not only by seabirds or sharks-humans too) the sea is turning into a very toxic soup, thanks to humanity. |

everything washes out to sea.
everything. and humans have been making quite toxic things for hundred sof years now. Jacques Cousteau's son says the oil will "kill everything" http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/vi...u.oil.cnn.html |

in the old days (like 100 years ago) people really believed that a river refreshed itself every night. Not just the shit went downstream but the shit was cleaned out. Well it turns out this oil well was destroyed on purpose by agents of Goldman so they could make billions shorting stocks. http://pesn.com/2010/05/05/9501645 No joke: Goldman Sachs shorted Gulf of Mexico "It turns out that Goldman Sachs really did place shorts on TransOcean stock days before the explosions rocked the rig in the Gulf of Mexico sending stocks plunging while GS profits soared -- benefitting once again from a huge disaster, having done the same with airline stocks prior to 911 then again with the housing bubble. In response to the alleged Goldman Sach's shorting story, Paul, who is an expert on the Gulf Oil subject, provided the following intelligence: There is a reason they could have known the rig was going to fail up to two weeks ahead of its failure. The nature of these wells is that they leave the drill mud in the well and compress using very heavy drill mud to keep the well from blowing up unlimited. The well would begin to bump (similar to boiling a big bubble) and the acoustic signals would tell the rig was in trouble that far ahead. Goldman Sacks could just have had inside info. They also know the scale of things. This is the best explanation. It could be otherwise. If you were going to sabotage a drilling team, all you would have to do is load a lighter mud in the mix as they pulled a drill pipe. .... There are lots of ways to have this happen either accidentally or deliberately. Goldman teams are great on statistical stuff sort of like the odds of rolling dice. They might just have figured stats for probability of a failure.??? Of course we could surmise other reasons are possible."

The small droplets of dispersed oil are “capable of passing right into the flesh of fish and birds.”
BP is now fighting the Environmental Protection Agency’s demands to change its use of toxic dispersants, after over 700,000 gallons have been used on the hundred-million-gallon Deepwater Horizon oil blowout. The dispersants have created an invisible toxic cloud of unknown size below the surface, as the federal government lets BP block attempts to monitor the gusher, study the undersea plumes, or learn about the dispersants being used. On Monday, Good Morning America correspondent Sam Champion and Philippe Cousteau Jr., the chief ocean correspondent for Planet Green and grandson of Jacques Cousteau, explored the toxic plumes of dispersed oil floating beneath the waves in the Gulf of Mexico: This, critics say, is what BP does not want you to see: oil and chemical dispersants swirling together into a toxic soup, forming large plumes under the surface of the water as deep as twenty-five feet, perhaps deeper. The small droplets of dispersed oil are “capable of passing right into the flesh of fish and birds.” “It’s absolutely disgusting,” Cousteau described. “I think this has got to be one of the most horrible things I’ve ever seen underwater.”

All aircraft operations are prohibited except those flights authorized by ATC, routine flights supporting offshore oil operations; federal, state, local and military flight operations supporting oil spill recovery and reconstitution efforts; and air medical and law enforcement operations.

I think it is extremely likely that this is the tipping point for the planet's ecology. Ocean life may not all die tomorrow but it will never recover. I truly believe that by 2050 the oceans will be dead essentially, and, coupled with our inability to reverse climate change, this will make Earth a very different place indeed, and not one where I'd enjoy being alive.
We're fucked, basically.
