all exaggerations, this is hardly the level of environmental disaster that the media has been hyping it to be.. the man-made famines of Kenya and Ethiopia are far more of an ecological and human catastrophe then this BP thing... Quote:
uhh, yeah they been rushing right on it haven't they, one of the wealthiest companies in the history of business sure are throwing all their efforts, BP sounds like the Phoenix Suns' coach throwing up his hands about how to take out the Lakers Quote:

while I agree that the have been largely overreacting to the degree of this problem, none the less I think the only self-righteous tirade on this thread has been you, and I am not just trying to pick on you, its truly nothing personal.. humans are destroying the earth, it will survive, but the ecosystems are hugely affected by our industrial and agricultural activities, from primitive rural communities slash and burning up good land, or bloodthirsty heartless multinational corporations raping up our resources leaving toxic swamps out of Venezuela or Nigeria... humans are going in the wrong direction, and we will not survive ourselves.

One of my best friends works for BP here in GB. Ive not spoken to him since this happened, he might be in hiding organising his family onto the pods that will escape this planet.
Oil is obsolete, im 100% in favour of nuclear power whilst we make solar and wind energy usable. But we cant go on relying on the dead organisms of the last few millennia.

We really shouldn't be using oil anymore because of pollution etc. But also, who knows what will happen in the future? We may have to start using it again and the more oil we leave now the better. |

Indeed, i dont discount that arguement. But its this massively important issue that we are all in the dark about because the corporations have a total interest in protecting the truth.

Oh yeah of course, leaving some oil for the future is hardly the best argument for us to stop using oil and its definitely low down the list of problems associated with the oil industry.

the media isn't hyping this disaster - they're barely reporting it. Hate to tell you podnuh but the oil is still coming out and we really don't know how much 100,000 barrels a day? I bet minute for minute Lindsay Lohan is getting as much air time or Brittany Murphy's husband.

The Gulf of Mexico is a very shallow gulf, andthe entire thing is a giant shrimp and oyster fest. this petroleum will cause untold havok on the sea bed, whether from the oil itself, or the oil blocking out the sunlight as it floats on the surface. It has been a month now, of tens of thousands of barrells a day being leaked into the Gulf.

http://www.sciencelab.com/xMSDS-2_Butoxyethanol-9923187 FUCK THAT. I also have a hard time believing that's the worst thing to be worried about in the oil spill. The amount of gnarly shit that's been taken out of gas in the past is ridiculous and we just replace benzene with something that hasn't SHOWN to be cancerous yet. The oil spill is fucking horrendous. There's no sense in me even saying any more. The mentally inefficient will remain ignorant. Just remember, ignoring reality is A LOT more difficult than accepting that we are, in fact, a fucking plague. Humans are inconsiderate parasites with no concern for our host. We'll see how things turn out when our host dies.

I am not arguing that this is not an immense and even horrifying natural disasster, but truthfully it is hardly the level of disaster that this thread and the media have been suggesting. In Kenya and Ethiopia, poor irrigigation and farming practices, exporting food crops to the Saudis has resulted in well over 10 million people and countless animals living in absolute privation... I just don't see that in the Gulf right now.. Quote:
a) explain the 5000 foot depth of that well? b) exactly, its been a MONTH and yet we STILL don't have massive oil slicks in the Gulf state coasts..
