It's too late to live in harmony with the Earth and "adapt". The Earth is adapting to us, violently. The Native Americans and Mayans had it right. Unfortunately we are at a stage in human culture that has been unseen before and while all these scientific breakthroughs are impressive I don't see them as the savior to human ignorance. Looking through history, the only thing the human race has proven time and time again is it's ability to destroy itself at the height of it's culture.
We are ambitious sure, intelligent sure...but how wise are we? |

Nah. Russia's once-feared Northern Fleet of nuclear submarines will take care of that. There are at least 50 of them rusting in harbors all the way up the arctic coast.

Forget 'black ocean', it's 'cursed earth'. The BBC are now reporting that the oil is starting to wash up on the shore-line.

..... Two completely different points going on here.... So signs of life have been found on Mars; possibly imply that it "might" at one time have been inhabit like our Earth. Great, wow geeze! so are you implying that Mars is in the condition it is as the result of negligent lifeforms that inhibited it? Why would you not assume that Mars is desolate as the result of the galaxies consequences? Massive solar flare, meteor, etc? What about the moon, should we be even more scared that the moon is now absent of all traces of life? And this, because the imaginary or assumed lifeforms (similar to ours now less) have surely ruined their atmosphere. It all sounds like black light pipe dreams to me. I declare, we are not going to ruin this planet, it's more powerful than all the humans can effect. Sure, we can compromise our own lifestyles and ruin ours and others species, we can disease anything.... but the earth can and will mend itself with no conscious and us long forgotten. I'm going to go way out on a limb and assure you that Mars is not in the state it is in following being inhabited by human-like creatures that indefinitely ruined for themselves. So, sorry, no lessons to be learned from Mars today.... What do you know about our ozone? What definitive evidence exist that we are physically depleting it, or even compromising it. Al Gore's assurance? Sure, they can measure radiation, solar rays and everything but how do they know it's "our" depleting, and not that the sun is strengthening, or we're in flares (which may last lifetimes), or that we're not getting closer to the sun? That's the thing and that's my point, the planet has and will always change... yet every step of the way, in the inflated self importance minds of humans, it was always because of their doing or at least changeable by our own will. In my opinion, we're one step beyond sacrificing humans on alters in response to droughts or active volcanoes, etc. So to say, our planet may be the next Mars is a given, So. ... but to tie it into a debate about us turning this planet into ozone'less Mars'esque planet is nothing short of a cheesy sci-fi story.

i wish i could be alive when the sun explodes and destroys the earth, or when an asteroid obliterates all the life on earth.

I hate this shit! Today I was watching the swamps of Louisiana imersed in oil. Next it will follow the gulf stream and work it's way around the entire state of Florida. They better not fuck up my beaches and salt marshes with that shit. I pissed that they had no plans of what to do in case this happened. Why the fuck are they spending a month now after the fact to figure out some way to stop it let alone clean the shit up.

from infowars.com
Karl Burkart, writing for Mother Jones, reports numerous, unconfirmed reports of cameras and cell phones being confiscated, scientists with monitoring equipment being turned away, and local reporters blocked from access to public lands impacted by the oil spill. “But wait,” writes Burkart, “isn’t that a public beach? From my viewpoint, it looks as if the Coast Guard has been given direct orders to protect BP’s PR interests above safety concerns over air and water quality, above the outcries of local governments in need of aid, and (worst of all) above the need for the American public to be informed about what is really going on in the Gulf.” On May 7, Wayne Madsen, writing for Oil Price, reported that the Obama administration and BP are covering up the magnitude of the volcanic-level oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and working together to limit BP’s liability for damage. “Only after the magnitude of the disaster became evident did Obama order Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to declare the oil disaster a ‘national security issue.’ Although the Coast Guard and FEMA are part of her department, Napolitano’s actual reasoning for invoking national security was to block media coverage of the immensity of the disaster that is unfolding for the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean and their coastlines,” writes Madsen.
