I just saw it on Saturday the Clockwork Orange of dating, absolutely disturbing. I was on the verge of crying at the end but my eye only watered, probably worth a tear. Blew my mind open in a good way

I thought it sucked, I really dislike animal cruelty for one thing. And it was a concept movie looking for a concept. Also misogyny.

For me who is a 35 year old molested virgin who through an adulthood of epic attempts could never yet successfully get a girlfriend I saw the desparate depravity of the film was all too real. Yorgos said the film wasn't even representing a dystopia, it's an accumulation symbolically of how dating actually works today and amalgamating the concepts the despair and tragedy is heightened. That if you are an adult single society imprints on you that there is something missing and wrong with you and should be treated like an animal or be completely chaste

yeah, it arrived with a lot of "critical acclaim" and I was talked into it. It was dismal. I checked today on Rotten Tomatoes, it's 90% by critics and 68% by audiences. Was also supposed to be humorous, none of us that saw it laughed at all, and we are all fans of dark humor.

I tried to watch it again the other day but I only listened to the audio because it was too disturbing. I told my cousin whose dating we're going to watch it together someday soon.

There's a art grant in my province in Canada for people with disabilities and I decided this week to apply for it to go on art dates: $5000 for me to go on dates and each woman gets a drawing, a glamour portrait and a coupon for another free date. When I find true love we hold a singles mingle at an art gallery with all the drawings of the women I drew. The women I told the idea to at the local artists centre were elated with the idea so I'm going to go for it. If the grant people realize how hard it is for people with mental illness to date or have a relationship then I think it will be a valid attempt. It'd be a lot easier to have money to go on dates just as in the Film all material necessities were provided for the singles. So I was pretty darn inspired by this movie to make some radical decisions

i've found recently a lot of films like that-- categorized as "dark humor" when there's nothing funny about them and it's more like torture porn for the audience.

what's the one with james mcavoy where he plays this crooked scottish cop having a mental breakdown. FILTH, that's the name. fucked up shit happens and it's not funny at all. it's a drama not a comedy. and not a very good drama but definitely NOT A COMEDY. just one fucking horrible shit after another. was glad when it was over and hugely pissed at the comedy claims.

I hated The Doom Generation and every single rich white ivy league writer's scripts that involve showing as much depravity and wickedness and evil as possible for it's own sake.

The only people laughing at it are fellow sociopaths, but these movies continue to be made because our culture creates sociopaths.

for dark humor I like Roy Anderssen & Ben Wheatley. I haven't seen Wheatley's latest, but all his previous work has been fantastic and Anderssen's as well.

is it a film worth watching? I don't have any way to watch it at home and would have to watch it with a friend. IS IT SAVE?

I loved Dogtooth (same director) I'm curious to see The Lobster (apparently all his films are better though). Some people I know loved The Lobster and some hated it. The people I know (IRL) who hated it are people whose taste I'm not that well attuned with, but the people who liked it are people whose taste I'm not familiar enough to draw any conclusions from.

The Doom Generation isn't as good as Nowhere (same director, haven't really been that keen on any of his other movies apart from Nowhere, but will continue to check out all his other movies because of how much I liked Nowhere).

The Lobster was really good. Then again I can accept a movie as just a movie and not care about animal cruelty or misogyny so maybe I'm the wrong person to talk with.

I felt a sensation to laugh watching this movie at certain times but it was physiologically restrained by a knot in my gut, that the characters successfully portrayed themselves by an inherently deep fear and doom. The musical score reinforced this. The actually intended comic relief was done by John C. Reilly, who once again is typecast as the innocent lovable doofus. being innocent lovable and funny gave him no sympathy or mercy from any characters. 'don't laugh he's done for'. Fucking so disturbing and sobering it was like a slap in the face to my sense of humor. Ugh.

So this film inspired me to start dating. I made a poster, and a dating coupon with a free comb. I've realized that it was the fact that I never comb my hair that I could never get a girlfriend. That women are attracted to big hair, the greatest lesson on courtship from the 1950s. I put a few downtown to start but once I get money for more combs, the chicks will be rolling in!

Well it's almost 45 days since I watched the Lobster.
I made a powerful attempt to find a girlfriend but no one called the number on my cards or posters. The carded combs were taken at the poverty community centre where I put the poster up. 10 combs in total. It must have been homeless guys who only wanted a free comb.

Imagine my chagrin when all these homeless men started coming in to the community centre with great hair. Not at all what I intended or expected.

So according to the film I will be turned into an animal of my choice by the end of the week.

I've accepted the reality and I've chosed to be a Scarab; the Sacred Dung Beatle and carry away the Mystic Dung of the Pharaoh.

Farewell Danny Combs... if only a loving woman cared

My friend introduced me to a Korean woman and loved the sincerity of my dating poster and card and said she would surely negotiate a date with me. Saved at the 11th hour! Phew!

This is Kia. She's a masseuse. We had a wonderful date on Sunday and she loved the portrait and thanked me for making her beautiful. She may be the one to validate and redeem my tortured lonely sexuality. We're planning another date soon. I keep playing Paul Simon's 'Duncan' to keep the dream alive
