as much as i really like dinosaur jr., i will have to go with the almighty teen supergroup deep wound.

i want to get one of those muppet shirts that the muppet is wearing in the just for heaven video.

i always thought deepwound was a pretty lousy harcore band to be honest. i do respect them cause they had a huge influence on the 'power violence' scene of the 90's (spazz, charles bronson, fuck on the beach, drop dead, etc..), but i never dug their stuff. i think dino jr on the other hand rocks. i remember how excited i was when i was 15 and i heard them for the first time, because they sounded like the hardcore punk that i was obsessed with when i was a 15 year old weed smokin skateboarding hardcore rat, mixed with the crazy horse/zeppelin/hendrix classic rock which my dad would play in the car when i was a little kid. i was ecstatic. so i gotta go with dino jr. j mascic is/was a classic rocker at heart and deep wound never showed his ridiculous range on the instrument because he never played those wonderful solos.

mascis is a better guitarist then a drummer, and sure i can't imagine deep wound going longer than they did. but at this point, i'm most likely to listen to dw than dinosaur.

part of this is the beyond's fault.

i think i liked them better is because as much as i love the classic rock influenced punk rock of dinosaur jr. i prefer raging angry 15 year olds singing about teen problems that were similar to mine was i was that age and the speed is just intense, better than ssd i think. plus, j. mascis' drumming, for a 16 year old, was damn fast and good.

i do prefer his face melting solos to almost anything though. if dino was just that than they would be the best band in the world.

haha, yeah i wish reunited favorite bands would do nothing more than tour for the fans, no records please. ive seen dino twice since they reformed and they still slay on stage, but i agree, beyond was trash. the only reunited band that really really BLEW my mind with records was mission of burma, they really sounded as good as they ever did. but that was a rare exception to the rule.

yeah the read and burn ep's were real good. but i dont neccesarily rate tham as 'reunited'. they never totally stopped speaking/making music together.

yeah that's true. i just couldn't think of a band that fit in the mission of burma category.

i hope negative approach doesn't release new stuff.

"...Every day they vowed to play faster. And they did, eventually developing a blur that could verge on experimental noise. Finally they burned as fast as they could, and realizing that was the case, they stopped. It was 1984. The rest of the story is well known: DINOSAUR, THE OUTPATIENTS, SEBADOH, GOBBLEHOOF, etc. Most of what Deep Wound recorded is on this disk, and it still sounds pretty choice the hundredth time through (believe me, I know). Like many of their suburban kith, there are huge swathes of Xeroxed style and content, but these patches are obliterated by an underlying fascination with the reckless potential of absolute speed, and an intellectual overlay (albeit in a nascent state) that would blossom more fully in the bands that would follow. But y'know, Hardcore was a really fucking good scene. And Deep Wound were a really fucking good Hardcore band. Living in this society has left a DEEP WOUND. Get used to it."-Byron Coley

haha i remember that song with the discharge comment at the end.

I'd rather listen to Dinosaur than Deep Wound, but DW had their moments. LOU'S ANXIETY SONG!
