I'm looking at getting a new camera soon, and I'm interested to hear what other people use, and whether they like what they use. So, tell me, what's your camera, what do you like about it, and what do you dislike?

I'm going to be getting a digital camera, but if your camera is a 35mm or whatever, don't let that stop you from posting.

Depends on how much you want to spend really.

For the price you pay, the Canon EOS 350D is a pretty good semi-professional camera.

I have a couple of cameras in mind to choose from (point and shoots with a big zoom) but I'm just interested to know what other people use. Someone may say something that leads me to think about a different camera altogether.

I used to use my dad's 35mm SLR some years ago, and I never had the patience to set everything up (focus... aperture... shutter speed) well enough to get a decent picture out of it. If there was something that I could flick a switch to change between it being totally automatic and me being in total control, that would be cool, but I don't know if such a thing exists.

But I was also interested in seeing some general camera chat, not just in getting recommendations.

I don't own one, but I'm sure you can switch from automatic/semi-automatic to manual.
I've only heard good things about it from friends that have it.
Also, it's really important that the camera reacts quick.
You don't want to have a camera that takes to long in capturing an image after you click.
You'll miss the ibis, so to speak.

Yes, that's one of the things I hate about my current camera. That and the fact that it is terrible in low light, it takes about two seconds capturing the image, which is consequently just a big blur.

I have a Pentax film camera that off the top of my head I can't remember the model. The shutter's busted though and will cost acouple $$$ to fix.

My girlfriends the photographer though with all the bits and pieces.

When it comes to the blur issue, putting the camera on a mini tripod or placing it on down on something helps. There are boardies here, who will give you better advice than I can. I concentrate more on video cameras.

I'm outta here.

The current camera's a pretty basic point and shoot - I can't adjust anything at all on it.

I've had this camera for over a year now and it's pretty great. It's really easy to operate, the picture quality is good, but to be honest the best thing about it is if you can't be bothered to use it manually it takes amazing pictures while in automatic mode. It's not bad for £400.
I use it for a variety of thing, ranging from hoilday snaps to documenting my sculptures. The quality is good enough for print standard in magazines etc, so it's a good all rounder.

Oh yeah, I also have the Canon Ixus 60, which is a great pocket camera. The best thing about this camera is the large screen size and the Macro function is pretty powerful. A nice little camera!

Very hard to get a tripod up a tree.

Pentax *ist DL. Takes really nice pictures but lately I haven't been to any shows really in enough of my personal interest to take photos, don't use it too much outside of that.

Lucky for me, my dad collects cameras. We have hundreds of cameras in our posession- some very old, some just old, some weird 80s snappers. So whenever we need a camera we just bust out one of those. I do have a few cameras of my own, though.

One is a Canon I bought in Denver in 2005. It's not digital, but I've forgotten the name of the model. It's fairly modern.

Another is my Polaroid camera that I found sitting in it's packaging, unopened, in a store closet in my dad's workplace. Of course I took it home. I've never bought any film for it though, I'm not made of money.

I have a digital camera too. I forget the brand.
