Having listened to a programme about Tōru Takemitsu on Radio 3 recently, I've dragged out the few CDs of his I have to give them another listen.

No cut and pasted information or Wikipedia links because you can do that yourself.

I find his work ranges from the very good to mediocre (in equal measures unfortunately), but when it's good, it is very good indeed.

I'm going now because I have children to look after. But when I return later, I'd lke some decent opinions which I can quote in conversations to make me look intelligent, witty and well informed.

This is the one that I tend to drift towards.

It's a CD featuring I Hear The Water Dreaming and Towards The Sea.

Very sparse, and very Debussy at times.

Check out Matsudaira, he does nice 'court' music that's a little more traditional. Takemitsu is perfect for soundtracks, but he's very radical compared to a lot of Japanese music that came before (engaging in film and the like).
