My wife and I will very likely be moving to Pittsburgh this fall to go to the University of Pittsburgh.

Does anyone who lives there or has lived there have any recommendations for neighborhoods to live in?

Right now we're leaning towards Regent Square.
East Liberty and Highland Park are out.

Thanks!

Why is Highland Park out? My sister lives there and it is pretty nice.

Squirrell Hill is really really nice as well as parts of Shadyside. Neither are far from Pitt, just a quick bus trip or car ride away.

Both Shadyside and Squirrel Hill have some nice places, but if yr buying, be warned that the taxes can get rather steep.

True.

If you are renting though you can get a nice deal if you're patient.

If you do have a car there are some nice neighborhoods a little further out of the city.

The most important thing about Pittsburgh is learning how to drive around Pittsburgh. It can be really crazy. If you make a wrong turn trying to get to a certain part of the city or get cut off of an exit it can take you awhile to get to where you need to be. Luckily getting to Oakland is really damn easy.
