I know "The Toxic Avenger" is suppose to be cheap looking, but imagine if they did it and kept the humor but also made it over the top violence, more like the comic book that came out. It would be pretty cool.

None of them. Remaking a movie is like shooting the same corpse over and over again.

Dave Chappelle has stated that the script was way better than the movie turned out and that he was unhappy with the finished product. The original is still great though.

Surely remaking a movie is no worse than covering someone elses record.

Not really. The nature of music is much more volatile and opens itself up to different interpretations. A song is a fundamentally different medium than a movie.

I really don't see the point of remaking a film at all unless in a very special circumstance. Taking inspiration from is another thing though. eg 12 Monkeys which couldn't be called a remake of La Jetee.

AMEN. Hollywood needs to stop remaking EVERYTHING. The 2nd Batman Begins movie is gonna have the damn Joker in it. I read the director said something like " I really didn't want to do it at first because Nicholson was completely perfect.......... " It's like then DON'T DO IT!!!! jeez

why would toxic avenger need remade?

...

uh.. anyway, a remake should only happen if there's some huge flaw with the original... for example, tarantino wrote natural born killers but disowned it because of oliver stone's changes to the script. it'd be cool if it were remade by tarantino or someone else based more on tarantino's script.. stuff like that, in my mind, would warrant a remake.

Actually Citizen Kane with Justin Timberlake in the lead might be the ultimate remake.

I think sometimes movies tend to go horribly wrong whenever they're based on well-known books, comics, etc. I support remakes of these movies (the bad ones at least), though they aren't so much remakes as they are different interpretations of the original piece of writing.

And then with horror movies it's like there are no rules, really. Of course it was pointless to remake Psycho, but when you have a movie monster who kind of transcends the original work they were featured in (whether it began on or offscreen), to me it's like anyone's game. I personally would love to see a great, new werewolf movie without the camp factor for once. There are plenty of campy horror movies out there, and I have no problem with it at all, but I am dying to see more new (good) horror films that are less tongue-in-cheek, or on the opposite side of the spectrum, less like the Saw trilogy. It seems like filmmakers are having a difficult time finding the middle ground, if they're even looking for it at all. And maybe it's not even the middle ground, but a whole different direction entirely that they need to pursue. I just don't find scary movies scary anymore, which is a shame. When I was in elementary school, I was very much obsessed with old horror movies, and our rental store at the time had plenty in stock that I was trying to make my way through.

Also, CGI is, for the most part, not scary. Stick with puppets, people. Whenever I hear people around my age talking about movies that scared the shit out of them as children, it's always Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal and movies that really aren't classified as horror but are for some reason still "creepy" in their own subtle way. I think there's something there that really needs to be explored and exploited, only this time around for an adult audience.
