Despite what I've said about him this past few weeks, my sympathies have to go to Massa, who drove a great race and was cruelly denied victory. Well done to Heiki and especially Glock though. Thinking about it, Hamilton did very little wrong throughout the race, and ironically would have probably won were it not for the blow out early in the middle stint. Kimi getting third is a bit of a travesty though, I have to say.

I agree, but for the upsets, no really great racing to be seen, just solid drives from a number of people.

yeah. massa deserved the win. great start and great race... but hats off to timo glock. stunning drive and also to lewis for salvaging an increase in points lead after that 5th place! delighted for heiki tho... bmw seemed to have lost the plot a bit.. shame..... now for 3 week break until a brand new street track in valencia... cant wait!!!

hope that british supersport rider, craig jones, is ok. nasty crash at brands hatch yesterday being hit by another bike... seems he got a brain injury of some description...

Yes, a friend close to the sport just called me and told me about Craig Jones. RIP.

I took a look on a couple of F1 messageboards last night and was depressed at how polarised and biased people are - mostly around Hamilton. It seems that on one side you have fans that can see him doing no wrong, while on the other there are those that feel incapable of giving him any praise whatsoever. The best post I read was from someone who described him as the worst driver currently in F1! Honestly, a single thread, on a SY board of all things, has more level-headed debate than anything I've seen on these so called 'specialist' sites.

I watched the highlights (ha ha) of the race again last night and probably feel that I was a bit harsh on Kimi. He was after all stuck behind Alonso (who I thought had an excellent race overall) for much of the race, on a track that was pretty well impossible to overtake on. I still think he's very below par this season but his performance yesterday wasn't quite as bad as it seemed while watching the race itself.

Would also like to say what a good job I thought Hill did as commentator. He's always struck me as a thoroughly decent bloke, and would love for the BBC to grab him when they take over from ITV next year. Although it's enough to know that I won't have to suffer adverts and that bloody awful 'Lift Me Up' theme tune for another season. Bring back 'The Chain'!

I'm still really impressed with Glock. I'd say the same for Heiki, but considering his car and grid position it was more like he did nothing wrong (besides the start I suppose). I hear that the Hungaroring may not be in next year's calender which, I have to say, I won't be too disappointed about, given the rather lacklustre spectacle of yesterday's race.

yeah, 23 hungaroring races and there was only 2 i reckon worth sitting down and watching again, 1989 and 2006! some of the specialist forums are dumb as fuck.. i was on a few but left after just getting exasperated by schumi fans and anti, almost racist remarks...... yeah people have their favourites but i dont and cant see motorsport as a sport like football where you go and support a team... i support the sport, i dont like massa but he did great yesterday, i like kimi but he is driving to a retirement at the end of the year, i reckon, if things dont book up....he is only 5 down on the title lead now tho... its stupid some folks support of the sport!

anyhoo.....as for the bbc.. my vote would be for them to retain brundle and give ben edwards the main commentary job, hill was good but really, anyone would be good besife james "YES IM RIGHT YES I AM RIGHT, NO I AM NOT" allen, the guy is a a lime flavour short of a packet of opal fruits...sorry starburst!

this man is the greatest commentator ever.....

Ha ha. I just listened to the song.

James Allen is probably more responsible for a lot of the Hamilton hating than Lewis himself. He really does treat every race like a tribute to him. I know Murray Walker would get all emotional when it came to Damon Hill, but you knew they had a bit of history with each other and there was something quite touching when Walker almost broke down while commentating as Hill won the title. Allen on the other hand is like a pub bore.

Oh, and while i'm at it. Seeing the last of that utter cock Jim Rosenthal will please me no end too.

yeah well steve rider is gonna go back to bbc. seemingly the presenter is gonna be richard hammond and top gear are gonna do a pre grand prix show on the friday before the race!! top quality shit!!!!

more sad is the fact that eurosport are losing their amazing coverage to the bbc for moto gp. eurosport have the best 4 hours of live sport every second sunday. funny, enthusiastic and totally into what they do. warm uops, and 3 races live with no interruptions at all.. surely the bbc aint gonna do that and they certainly arent gonna take on julian ryder, toby moody and randy mamola.. 3 of the finest commentators on the planet!!!!

GREAT TRACK, DULL RACE.. SHAME..
massa drove flawlessly and deserved a win but thru no fault of his own he was let out from the pits in a dangerous way, in front of oncoming cars, a collision almost happened... that equals according to the rule book that a stop go penaly should be issued if the incident occours more than 5 laps from the end...

bullshit #1...it occoured 17 laps from the end and the f.i.a. decided to investigate after the race, why?? i dont know. its a straight forward rule, infringe in a pitstop, you get a stop go penalty end of story!

bullshit #2...after the race he gets nothing, not even a fine!!!!!! the rulebook was rewritten today to suit the f.i.a.

f.i.a. means Ferrari International Aid by the way..

just when you thought the sport was becoming fair and honest again, they throw this...bullshit..mosely should resign and the whole board!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more. Today was a good day for Massa but a bad one for the credibility of F1.

The race itself was pretty dull and Massa (who I still can't take entirely seriously as a potential champion) definitely deserved his victory. But as you say, a pitlane infringement is a stop-go, end of. I tend not to buy the whole bias in sports thing, but the FIA's treatment of Ferrari is just a joke. They're a team that divides fans of the sport anyway, and shit like that just reinforces their status as F1's pantomime villain. I heard on another board that there's an increasing possibility that Mosley's replacement could be Jean Todt. God help the sport if that proves true!

The Kimi situation continues to baffle me. I almost think Ferrari should replace him with a test driver who'd at least be out to impress. Kimi's just sleepwalking his way through. What's more, if he carries on the way he is, Ferrari are gonna be in danger of losing the constructors title. I suppose the team feel a bit stuck. He's the reigning champion and only has the rest of the season to race, but even so.

While I'm looking forward to F1 returning to the BBC, I can't say that I'm as excited at the prospect of Top Gear getting involved. Don't get me wrong, any programme that 's gonna feature F1 is fine with me, but I simply can't stand that show, with its blokey smugness. Fortunately Hammond is probably the one I least dislike.

Haha, we'll never agree on the whole Top Gear thing.

If Kimi wins this year's title it'll be the most depressing end to a season. I feel almost like that with him winning last year but this year he's been more like a passenger in a great car than a driver of one. I used to like him a lot but this past couple of years (nothing to do with his move to Ferrari, I should add) he's been really getting on my nerves.

he is gonna retire after next year and thats a certainty...

lewis will win the championship. i cant see massa keeping the great drives up.. he is gonna fuck up..

shame about bmw, i thought they may claw their way back in.. excellent season tho. only had about 2 or 3 dull races.....

hamilton wasnt gonna drive yesterday due to a very sore neck and the flu.. he had to have injections before the race! makes his drive even better i suppose!

Haha. To be honest, I wouldn't mind a Jordon 1-2, or something like that, at this stage in the season anyway. So long as the Ferrari's finish behind Lewis I don't really mind. I'm not even a big fan of Hamilton (as a person) but I'd rather discover that Jeremy Clarkson was marrying my sister than have to deal with either Ferrari driver winning the championship this year.
