I've never been to many thrift shops, but I love me some pawn shops and used book stores. I'm going to hit up the used bookstore in town for the complete works of Washington Irving: $8, if it's still there. I only had $4 when I was last there, so hopefully no ones bought it since last week.

Oxfam are particularly expensive, which could be the reason they closed where I live.

We still have quite a selection here still though. I buy pretty much all my books from charity shops.

Charity shops are full of naff shit though, like an entire family's library of VHS tapes and horrible 1980s blazers. The books are typical of Britain's imbecile populace, twatfest autobiographies and pictures of cars with a foreword by Jeremy Clarkson. Looking for anything worthwhile is like looking for a needle in a haystack- though sometimes they put the best of the bunch behind the counter, like a dented trumpet (£50).

This opinion is hugely biased on account of me spending most- if not all- of my childhood in a fucking charity shop.

the thrift shops here are by no means dusty, they are crowded with people buying shit! and I imagine there is a larger selection of shit to buy in America vs Europe because Americans are religiously excessive consumers!

One of my friends gets like 90% of her clothes from stores like these, I don't know how she does it, but literally everything is reclaimed from the 70s. The only clothes I've ever bought second-hand were a bunch of rodeo shirts because they're obviously not really something you'd find new in these parts and I had to have them.

I'd say more like 5% of my shit comes from there, but I still go all the time cuz there is a good one less then a block from my house. I only look for particular kinds of things, like really cool or rare t-shirts, nearly new golf shirts and dress shirts. also suits, furniture, crap to hang up on the walls, you find some cosmically psychedelic shit there sometimes, and I don't mean literally like tie-dyed shit, but rather thematically, like stuff that is will just trip you out and you have to have it.

my favourite one is in berlin. you buy the clothes by weight instead of individual items. so a kilo of t shirts or a kilo of shirts and it was good stuff too.

Here there are three Goodwill locations, a Salvation Army store, SPCA thrift store, and Habitat for Humanity.

Pork had some thread about bargains and I nearly posted in it recounting some of my recent incredible deals. You have to know what to look for and what to avoid, but once you have it down you can make out really well.
