Hey im wondering if any one could help me out . I have a school project due, in a week and well im not that far i have had success finding sources for the other parts of my assignment but i have found my self kinda stumped. Fundamentally what the project is is you choose a word and explore different sides of it. you do this by finding sources and writing reflections. being a big SY fan i chose underground. the step i need help with is

"FIND a collection of several images (art, symbols, advertisements,
photographs) and media (films, songs, television shows, newspaper or
magazine articles) that may help you to further reveal the theme you
have selected, keeping in mind that you need to be faithful to the two
sides of your theme focus.

Select two of these you would like to include in your final tapestry and
write a brief (100 word) reflection for each outlining the connections you
have made between the visual and your theme focus." if any one could send me any links that deal with the theme underground (jack Kerouac, the road not taken by robert frost) type of thing that would be greatly appreciated . mind my terrible grammar and sorry for the long post :P.

It's a massive subject. Does it mean Socialist Realism? Beats? European fetish culture? Punk rock? Pornographic ceramics? It's a lot of things. It kind of doesn't mean anything.

Given that you only need to write 100 words for each, you probably just need a working definition of the Beats. This website, here, will give you that, as well as breaking it down into some decent bullet points:

• Spiritual liberation, sexual "revolution" or "liberation," i.e., gay liberation, somewhat catalyzing women's liberation, black liberation, Gray Panther activism.
• Liberation of the word from censorship.
• Demystification and/or decriminalization of some laws against marijuana and other drugs.
• The evolution of rhythm and blues into rock and roll as a high art form, as evidenced by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and other popular musicians influenced in the later fifties and sixties by Beat generation poets' and writers' works.
• The spread of ecological consciousness, emphasized early on by Gary Snyder and Michael McClure, the notion of a "Fresh Planet."
• Opposition to the military-industrial machine civilization, as emphasized in writings of Burroughs, Huncke, Ginsberg, and Kerouac.
• Attention to what Kerouac called (after Spengler) a "second religiousness" developing within an advanced civilization.
• Return to an appreciation of idiosyncrasy as against state regimentation.
• Respect for land and indigenous peoples and creatures, as proclaimed by Kerouac in his slogan from On the Road 'The Earth is an Indian thing.'

If it were me, I'd choose two SY related items that each in some way relate to one of the points on that list. I'd say it'd be pretty easy applying almost any SY song to at least one of those points.
