haha well, i've got nothing to do with it, blame it on the artists releasing so many great records. i myself begin to think it's all a conspiracy for them to get my money, cause i've spent hundreds of euros in records this year already.

in all seriousness i think you'd really enjoy 2562's new record i mentioned on the previous page. it's made with nothing but disco samples, yet sounds like nothing remotely disco, it's amazing.

he's really ace. for some reason i needed some time to get into his works, but once you're there... it's really great. this new one is by far is best in my opinion though. "final frenzy" is an incredible track.

also, asp, since this is pretty much the "talk about great electronic music" thread now, you should check out (if you haven't done so already) anne james chaton's "événements 09", i think you'd like it. it's really experimental, weird electronic music. basically the guy collects various pieces of paper (train tickets, random bits of newspapers, bills, etc) on certain occasions (barack obama's inauguration, michael jackson's death). then he does a repetitive beat using only his voice recorded on a cheap microphone and looped throughout the whole track ("pop is dead pop is dead pop is dead pop is dead pop is dead pop is dead pop is dead the king of pop is dead") and reads those bits of paper on the top of it. it might not be as effective for you as 99% of it is in french, but hearing "0 0 8 3 78 94 820 8 4 A B Votre caissier s'appelle Le train n° 8346 Paris 948 U C L'investiture de Barack Obama", etc, certainly makes me feel quite paranoid. i saw him opening for the ex a few months ago and really enjoyed his performance, so i'm glad to see this come out. would be interested in knowing what you think. it's out on raster-noton... i find it really impressive.

cool, I'll check it out.

I actually was a huge fan of raster-norton for years, I downloaded or bought literally everything on the label. I mean, I'd sit through Alva Noto albums for 10 hours straight, you know. I dunno, I just kinda got burnt out, but ... hey now's as good a time as any to come back into the fold!

It's a very very specific sound, one of the few labels which seems to only cater to a very small demographic (ERSTWHILE's almost-exclusively-EAI-related-discography is another example). But a few of my favs are the Ryoji Ikeda stuff (which not a lot of people have the tolerance/patience for but I love him), the Cyclo album from 2001, Aoki Takamasa's stuff, Mark Fell's "Multistability" (definitely my favorite album on that label), Mitchell Akiyama's "Temporary Music", obviously any of the Basinski stuff (though that's not really "Electronic" music of course), and Goem's "Stud Stim".

...yeah, looking at that list, every one of those albums sounds completely different, really, but they all kinda have that nice R-N feel that you find in many of the other releases.

finally got this on cd and it's awesome as expected. so is the new instra:mental - real innovative stuff on there as well, everything they've done over the course of the past few years was great but this is just as good, and it sounds really new -.

BUT the most amazing of them all is definitely that new kode9 & the spaceape record for me. it is simply stunning. otherman sounds otherwordly. the whole album maintains an impressive tension, it perfectly illustrates the concept of the record. i'm well impressed with this. spaceape is on point as always. i was expecting a lot, yet this managed to exceed my expectations... you all need to hear this.

i think this thread fits for D&B as well... it basically became the "cool electronic / bass music" thread. there has already been discussions about jungle on here for instance... so D&B wouldn't cause issues, especially since it's likely the same people that will be interested on here.

but yeah. D&B rules. i've discovered it this year too actually. are you into the autonomic sound that's being pushed forward by the likes of instra:mental and d-bridge? it's some of the most interesting music at the moment, i think.
rufige kru is effin nice.
d&b/jungle pre-1995 is probably my favorite part of the genre... stuff like origin unknown just blows my mind.

i should check predatorz, then, never heard about him/her/them.

thanks! getting it now.

i guess you have origin unknown's "speed of sound" compilation and metalheadz recent "15 years of metalheadz"? those are pretty easy to find and full of old, great jungle/d&b.

fairly related: do you know good uk garage artists? i wish i could get more into it but it's a badly documented scene, which makes finding good uk garage hard 10 years later... i only know of horsepower productions and el-b, and even them are already quite dubsteppish. so, if you got recommendations, i'd be more than glad to hear them...
