I got a 7" by these guys the other day (Bulk Fiber/Space Invaders) and it's pretty good in a geekier-than-devo synthpop way. I can't find any information about them other than who was in the band and the fact that it was listed as "Early US No Wave" in the shop. I doubt that's the case because it doesn't sound like it's from the late 70's.

Anyone shed anymore light?

Rock & Roll Is Dead, Long Live Rat At Rat R (Neutral) 1985
Stainless Steel/Free Dope for Cops & Kids EP (Purge/Sound League) 1988
Rat At Rat R (Sound League) 1991
Rat At Rat R (you figure out the anagram, sport) was one of the brighter lights of the NYC noise-groove scene back in '83. Originally hailing from Philadelphia, the quartet was formed in '81 by poet/guitarist Victor Poison-tˆte, and reassembled on the Lower East Side a year or so later. Their craven guitar-crack, female bass player (Glenn Branca's cousin, Sonda Andersson), and shouty-dunty approach to tunerism soon put them in the company of Live Skull, Swans and Sonic Youth. At the time, Rat At Rat R was probably the most trad-sounding of these combos, but the group imploded before garnering much positive notice outside its neighborhood. The records combine swinging, fucked-up guitar rock with neo-artsy mouth action.
[Byron Coley]

I found the above about Rat At Rat R. There's even less about Conceputol. Mainly info from the sleeve of the single and the single being listed on peoples trade/for sale/wants lists. And wfmu posted it on their blog but didn't have much info either. And if they don't have much info...

I didn't really. I just saw the 7" in a record shop and it looked like it might be interesting and was only £1.50. It's pretty good.

Don't know how it got into the list of "no wave" records, but the 7" by Conceputol is good fun novelty new wave. "Bulk Fiber" is indeed ultra-nerdy. I recited lyrics of that song to my roommate every now and then. He's got all kindsa weird things in his diet because of protein malabsorption problems, so even some of the more obscure dietetic references in "Bulk Fiber" are fairly well-understood at my house.

Been a fan of the record since hearing it on KDVS as a kid, then finding it years later when I made it my mission to listen to every single 70's/80's punk/new-wave/DIY artifact in the expansive 7" vinyl collection there. I wrote a review of it about five years ago which seems to have disappeared from most search engines.

If you are a fan of this one, I recommend you find the only 7" ever by a band called Observers Observing Observables.

Thanks! I don't know why it was labelled nowave either but it's nice nonetheless.

I thought you might be able to provide some more info on this...I was going to address you directly in my first post infact because I though it anyone was going to have heard this single it would have been you.

I'll keep an eye out for the Observers.. one. Whether I'll find it or not is another matter.
