Sun Ra released a CD called "My Brother the Wind Vol. II." Thurston is a big Sun Ra fan. Leaky Lifeboat includes the line, "my brother the wind, he's got to know." It seems fair to conclude that the line originated from the title of the Sun Ra album. Sonic Youth are still making obscure references.

Nice find. Yeah, I'd say it's fair to say they grabbed that line from the Sun Ra album. They do a lot of that in their lyrics, and a lot of name dropping too.

it includes at least one other sun ra album in the lyrics.

I posted about this about four months ago and nobody seemed to notice or care. I find it really odd that the song is loaded with Sun Ra references (not particularly obscure) and yet is dedicated to Gregory Corso.

Sorry, don't remember your original post. Nice work. While I agree the quotes from Sun Ra are weird on a song dedicated to Gregory Corso, I ike the fact that Sun Ra and Gregory Corso were active at around the same time. It makes the song a kind of period piece, though the music is arguaby very '09.

I noticed it as well.

Likely the song was already complete when they decided to affix the tribute to GC.
