Wow, I haven't found that to be the case at all. Most new LPs are more than new CDs these days, especially 180-gram LPs. It costs more to make an LP, and the retailer's profit margin per new LP is usually much less than with a CD. A retailer usually must pay 10 or 11 bucks for an LP that at the most he can hope to get 18 bucks for.

most new CD's at record stores in houston are 14.99-16.99 (US dollars)

most new vinyl is around 10.99-14.99

of course the re-issue stuff is more expensive.

however, used vinyl rules too.

Both here and in Iowa, most of the new releases I bought on vinyl were between 11 and 18, depending on who and what it was. The CD counterpart was usually a couple of bucks less. Most of the reissued vinyl I bought back there and here ranged anywhere from 10 to 30, again depending on who and what. But on average I found that I paid about 18 per LP, and in most cases, could have gotten the CD equivalent for less.

Case in point--today I saw a copy of Dark Side of the Moon, new and sealed, on LP for 25. The CD, new and sealed, was 15.

I believe the 8 track deck Cantankerous was referring to was 8 track tapes, not 8 inch vinyl. For all you youngins' 8 tracks were kind of sort of the bridge between vinyl & cassette tape. (yeah, yeah, I know cassettes were available as early as the 60's but whatever) Also, I might add 8 track tapes are/were a pain in the ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But they still kind of rock if yr into outdated technological foutaise...

Realy? I just looked at Thrill Jockey records' webpage thing and their LPs (and MP3s) are listed for $10.00 and CDs for $13.00. Norton records has LPs @$9.00 and CDs for $12.00...

This nice little record shop 'round here in East Jesus has The Destroyed Room vinyl for about $15... gotta pick that up, just for the price alone.

Ive just bought a rekkid playa, and have a small collection of vinyl stuff from over the years to play on it but i tend to think music is music, if you care about the medium then you care too much. The only difference i see is between having something physical in your hand (Record, tape, CD) and just clicking on a button. Vinyl is mass produced too.

i've just got some decks, i only have EVOL on vinyl and I loved every second of listening to it in its entirety, it feels more personal when listening to it on vinyl, does anybody feel the same? also there was stuff i never noticed whilst listening to it on itunes.
