that is because you have different definitions of close or far.
british people will say 1 hs is far, when to a lot of people thats the time they spend daily stuck in traffic.

ive seen it many times (car window). i can see a bunch of people walking in circles ten meters from the thing and wondering what the hell is this.

I went there as a 10-year old and remember being annoyed that you couldn't get anywhere near the stones... I don't think there was even something like an information centre or anything at the time, has that changed? I mostly remember it as just a bunch of stones and a big parking lot with lots of busses full of tourists.
