Darwin Sound Scape

Hello Rockstars!,

I have just got home from the Happy Yess (www.happyyess.com) where we have had a Sonic Youth Tribute Night featuring lots of local bands and slap together bands including Chronic Tooth and ending in a Sound Orchestra featuring many guitars and even a double bass with a pickup feeding back into a wall of amplifiers outside the venue. For those who don't know, Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory of Australia which has a population of about 200,000 people spread over an area of about 1 million square kilometres. About half of those live in Darwin, the satellite city of Palmerston and the surrounding rural area.

It's not a place that frequently attracts touring bands though Bob Dylan and Patti Smith did play here once as did Michael Franti and we get a few good Australian acts through every year but of course what we're all hoping for is that now we've demonstrated our committment and appreciation for Sonic Youth that you'll see fit to grace us with your presence and rock the daylights out of Darwin when you next visit the Southern Hemisphere (which hopefully will be sooner rather than later). If this were to happen, I think you could convince the Happy Yess Sound Orchestra to get together for another performance for your entertainment.

Until then we'll keep doing what we can.
