That's right. The site didn't exactly hype this one to death but it's there on the calendar.

It's at Zorn's "The Stone" in East Village. For a measly $10 Thurston will scour your ears with steel wool!

That really puts that McCarren show for $35 in perspective. Let's see, another hot-hot-hot banger set from the noise idols, albeit one that I've basically seen before (and recently) or some unique low-key skullfuckery for dem weirdos.

Not really that great. Kind of lame actually. The noise projects are basically just treading water these days. It ain't '97 anymore, guys. For every Goodbye Twentieth Century or "Campfire" there's ten largely derivative and predictable noisebaths to endure. Come alive y'all gimme whatcha got!

There, I wrote something critical of SY on their board. Big step forward.

you mean all the 'noise' projects by the band members? or just thurstons?

i'd say thurston has moved far along the stream since 97 - remember this

My whining was definitely a reductive generalization more symptomatic of my moment of dissatisfaction than a well-reasoned and deliberated argument, but it just kind of disappointed me off that I knew everything they were going to do before they did it, there was no surprise, and it seemed to me the exact opposite of what I'd gone there hoping for, which was some uncanny secret language of unspeakable oblivion.

And just to wear my outside status on my sleeve I had no idea who any of the others were, but as billed on The Stone site:
Ryan Sawyer (drums) Thurston Moore (guitar) Susan Alcorn (pedal steel) Matt Heyner (bass). Heyner wasn't there for the 8pm that I saw but was expected for the 10pm. For all I know that set was beyond sublime and I just caught the wrong one. Maybe not.

Good lookin on the Spooky collabo though, I'll track it down.

Yo La Tengo at McCarren Pool yesterday was ba-na-nas!!!

Just curious, was the Yo La Tengo set was a surprise?

or, being song drive, that wouldn't be an issue?

I just figured I'm the only boardie who's seen the solo projects enough to know what to expect (and I usually don't unless its someone like prurient he's playign with)

I was a Yo La Tengo virgin until Sunday so every song was a surprise. On that note, hearing a band for the first time when they're playing the shit live right in front of you is a powerful intro to their music. I saw Sleater-Kinney at Arthurfest without a clue what to expect and they broke my tailbone.

Yo La Tengo at the pool, the Blue Line Swinger to close the set was extremely moving and perfect for the occasion, well that's a great song so no surprise. The encores after that were sort of anti-climactic I think. I was not a big Yo La Tengo fan before, but this show really moved me.

I agree on Sleater-Kinney, great great live band, saw them on their next to last gig at Lolla in 2006, and that was a great set, especially knowing that was the last go around, I think they had one more show after that in Washington state.

Didn't make this last show at the Stone, so I don't know about that, although Ryan Sawyer is a great drummer, so kind of sorry I missed it.
