I like some of Lush, but I wouldn't rank them as high as you. Their records never leave me awestruck or anything, like I forget some of the songs immediately after hearing them.

Maybe I just need to listen to them more?

In the same vein of the multitude of all the garage and psych rock reissues, Captured Tracks have started a shoegaze archive series.

I'm really enjoying Should at the moment.

I like authentic shoegaze, much as I hate that term. By authentic, I mean early 90s, the real ones, MBV, Ride, Slowdive, Cocteau Twins, et al.

Don't argue with me about this.

Oh are you kidding? Of course they do. I'm not really a sabbath fan, but I am really. not. a zeppelin fan.

I avoid both when possible. They're in my collection, and I sometimes wonder why.

Yeah, I think they both kind of suck! LZ has like three good songs and they're only good when people do left-field, weirdo covers of them.

Black Sabbath has to be credited for their rhythm section and for their willingness to be heavy when heavy wasn't really going on.

Also, Sabbath pretty much created stoner rock. Led Zeppelin is probably the founder of true arena heavy metal, but that's only a good thing about .01% of the time (meaning 99. 99% of heavy metal is terrible).

Well, I never listen to either by choice. Sometimes I feel like hearing "Snowblind", and every once in a great while I feel like listening to "Tangerine", but mostly I just kind of quietly accept that they exist without ever doing anything to intentionally put myself in contact with them. Sorry, but for me the '60s were about something completely different... the lead-up to punk, and the sowing of the seeds of songwriting tactics that would later be run through a 4-track by stoned college kids.

Well, there are about 180 degrees from JAMC and MBY and Slowdive, which right now's about all I'm playing. So I probably won't spin either in a while.

I'm on a similar kick, but instead of Slowdive its Spiritualized (in preparation for new album!!!) and The Asteroid No.4, who I just found out about the other day in this very forum!

I've never actually liked slowdive. I can't get into it. I also have a hard time with Ride.

Seriously?! Probably right up there in my top 5 from that time, Slowdive and Ride. Nowhere is so nice.

I'm not familiar with Spiritualized. May have to venture in.

Spiritualized fits in well with shoegaze, though they're not really (I don't think).

Very different creature than Spacemen 3. But I like them even more and they're one of my absolute top favorite bands ever!!

If you haven't heard them, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is their classic. A shoegaze fan might do better to start out with Pure Phase and Laser Guided Melodies. Their 00's output was great, but not in a ground breaking way. Just great rock n' roll.

I mean, if you like the Velvets, JAMC and shoegaze, odds are you'll like Spiritualized.
