When I'm stoned or coked up, I never think: 'now, which album would compliment my mood?; I'll go dig through my collection'. I'm too busy thinking about how brilliant everyone is.

And owning albums exclusively for such occasions sounds like pre-meditated fun.

It doesn't help that most of my friends like dance music too.

In fact, everytime I’m on coke I have one of those sudden moments of clarity: why do I bother with music at all? It's so stupid. The media's moronic hyperbole; the obsession with fashion; bands taking themselves laughably seriously... Most of the music I like is tainted by this circus; and if I want to hear good stuff which isn't, I have to trawl through forums to find out about obscure 80s American alt. bands. Why don't I read more instead?

Now I’m sober: it's 1am and I'm on the Sonic Youth forum.
