That was the Times, the ultimate establishment newspaper. I may have heard it earlier from the Daily Mail or the Guardian or something.

You really need to get your news from more than one source.

Dozens of coronavirus antibody tests on the market were never vetted by the FDA, leading to accuracy concerns

Aggressive marketing of the tests could confuse those clamoring for the products to determine who may have developed disease-fighting antibodies

By
Laurie McGinley
April 19, 2020 at 6:30 a.m. MDT

The Food and Drug Administration, which was harshly criticized for being slow in authorizing tests to detect the coronavirus, has taken a strikingly different approach to antibody tests, allowing more than 90 on the market without prior review, including some that are being marketed fraudulently and are of dubious quality, according to testing experts and the agency itself.

Antibody, or serological, tests are designed to identify people who may have overcome covid-19, including those who had no symptoms, and developed an immune response. They are not designed to detect active infections. Some officials tout the blood tests as a way to reopen the economy by identifying individuals who have developed immunity and can safely return to work. But many scientists, as well as the World Health Organization, say evidence is lacking that even high-quality antibody tests can prove someone has immunity to the novel coronavirus.

Now, the emergence of dozens of tests never reviewed by the FDA — many of which are being aggressively marketed — could confuse doctors, hospitals, employers and consumers clamoring for the products, according to critics who say the agency’s oversight has been lax. The questions are taking on special importance as federal and state officials debate various strategies, including using serological testing, to help determine when they can end state and local lockdowns.

“A test is only as good as its results,” said Kelly Wroblewski, director of infectious disease programs at the Association of Public Health Laboratories, which has been urging the FDA to take a close look at the unapproved antibody tests. “Having many inaccurate tests is worse than having no tests at all.”

Prodded by such concerns, the FDA recently has stepped up warnings and is joining other agencies, including the National Cancer Institute, to try to determine whether the unvetted tests actually work.

I owe you an apology there. I was confusing your link with meetings he'd attended remotely when he was getting sick but hadn't yet been hospitalized. I didn't read the Times article through to realize they were talking about meetings he'd missed before he contracted the virus. I'll be more careful in the future.

It’s all good!

Interactive Sick Map Of America

Vegas Wants To Open By Memorial Day Weekend......the casinos will be worth keeping an eye on, at least that first month.

Locally, a politico website is hinting that ONLY 1 of every 5 restaurants will reopen. Also suggesting a major lull in groceries and produce ever reaching grocery store shelves due to distribution centers closing down.

It’s going to be an interesting week!

I made my cellar waterproof and stocked it full with 50 gallon of oil. My neighbor who lives on ground floor is not happy when I told him it's best that he stopped smoking

Oil crash explained: How are negative oil prices even possible?

Growing up along the carcinogenic coast (Lake Charles, Louisiana to Texas City which is between Houston and Galveston), refineries are a way of life. It’s the lifeblood for the surrounding communities. So many of my Uncles and cousins are working for / retired from oil companies.

Things are dire with ominous predictions with oil expected to possibly climb to $10 per barrel by sometime in May. If the crash continues, we can expect massive layoffs as refineries reduce down to mothball operations......small to medium size refineries/oil companies may file for bankruptcy.

The trickle down impact for cities and counties who are so largely dependent on tax revenue for operating expenses will be greatly impacted.

We could experience a true depression!

That last sentence of yours is already true for Rhode Island, as we have already registered an unemployment rate of 23% (including small businessmen, who've been allowed to file for unemployment under emergency rules). And we've already been climbing from a position of economic downturn relative to nearby states. When I was a teenager living in Connecticut, you could literally see the state line in the road, with clean asphalt turning into pebbles as soon as you crossed the boundary. (I HATED those trips to the beach, where my father would play early 1970's music (I particularly remember Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", which I felt to be the most boring piece of music I'd ever heard!), only to be followed by my looking at girls in bikinis, and needing to hide the evidence of the same from the general public there gathered upon the beach!)

But the point is that Rhode Island was just beginning to climb up from chronic poverty as this epidemic hit, and now all bets are off.

Rhode Island is, in fact, at least as much of a Social Democratic state as my native Wisconsin, which is the reason why the self-employed are able to apply for our unemployment benefits. No trickle-down here!

Yet this level of economic inactivity cannot easily be turned around. Even the stimulus payments will only produce inflation once the economy is reopened and all those dollars are thrown against store shelves emptied by economic stasis.

Oil companies paying people to take petroleum which has no available storage space has an analogue in junk car companies, who sometimes have to pay for junk cars to recycle, and sometimes demand payment from junk car owners to take the junk off their hands. Right now, certain species of petroleum constitute proper junk, which is extremely unfortunate for major aspects of world finance, which has bet good money (now bad money!) on petroleum futures.

The resulting decapitalization of the world economy bodes quite ill for the welfare of the common man, yet the ruling class will always remain above it all, as, according to Neo-Liberal economic theory, the taxpayers will always be available to make good their losses, at the cost of their own livelihoods, and lives.

Conspiracy theorists burn 5G towers claiming link to virus

LONDON (AP) — The CCTV footage from a Dutch business park shows a man in a black cap pouring the contents of a white container at the base of a cellular radio tower. Flames burst out as the man jogs back to his Toyota to flee into the evening.

You know what, fuck it, let the fucking virus kill us all. The human race doesn't deserve this planet.
