there may be a lot to hear, but most of it is crap. if anything now i find there isnt enough great albums, same as always.

i think it just takes time to build up a mental filtering system when you are online as opposed to the old days of scanning racks in shops.

I can't because those boots are for people who weren't there and I'll look like an old lady trying to be young. Or like one of those 15 year old kids with long hair that listen to the doors. You don't remember right. There was Alice in Chains and it was ok. Then they started saying Prozac everyone let's be healthy and hip and cool and modern. Let's stop smoking in bars and count calories.

yeah actually on second thought you are probably right. i mean back then you had daria on tv. the compulsory positivity wasn't as strong. cynicism was more acceptable. unlike now were you are supposed to have one of those demented botox smiles at all times, the type that can only come about thru intense self hatred and denial.

my mum wanted a pair of grunge boots so badly last year.

they had some amazing ones at river island. you know, when they already come looking old.

i had some boots i'd be embarassed to even see now. But you could get away with anything at the time, like wearing nighties as a dress or applying make up drunk. Now you can't even do anything to make yourself look shit, because no matter how shit you look, they'll think it's a trend and you're a fashionista.

What to do when all you ever wanted was a career in music? It's all your good at? You have a functional band? An outlet to create, perform, a growing fanbase? I have no problem being poor, but I cant even support myself at the moment...

make the choice.

which is more important? partying or music?

if its music then stop partying/drinkin/smokin/druggin and you will have the fiduciary means.

however this choice is difficult, and does not give a short term pay off for your nervous system. it requires slog and concentration. but it is worth it.

stack some shelves part time. 2-4days a week of that. then at the weekend or whenever DONT party to blow off steam. use that time for music. use the money for equipment/to support yourself.

stop spending money on superfluous stuff. concentrate on music stuff and decent food.

maybe you will find short term your bandmates just want to party and dont care about music, but i imagine eventually you will find others who are dedicated to music and dont want to hang around with partiers because they want to do some work.

if you dont have enough money, make a budget, look at what you are buying each day/week/month. plan it out in advance. things may be shit now but its probably within your means to survive and have time to work on music.

thats my advice anyway.

and dont give me a whole big post about your finances and how tough it is because i dont care. ha.

No that's good advice. Damn good. Im starting to get over the partying, even though I love it.

Im the last of my bandmates to do so, the other dudes are kinda over it. Def serious about the music.

That'll at least help the short term.

I guess I'm talking more about the longterm.

Eh, whatever.

i think that what i said is the best way to help in the long term. because over time it will give you higher levels of energy, more cash, more equipment, better concentration, better mental health and thus better performance ability, better creativity etc. it will enable you to do the hard work that over time will build into something. it takes a lot of practice. a lot of hard work, a lot of thought and a lot of ideas put into practice. of course you know this already, but being clear headed is the best way to do this.

maybe after say 6 months of intense practice you might be even better and someone might offer you a good gig. maybe since you'll be sober the people you socialise with will open up new oppurtunities.

i understand long term there's other things to think about. at least after some hard work and sobriety it will be easier to think rationally about.

all the examples im giving are the opposite of how i used to be. so i only know this stuff from fuck up experience. lets just say partying and drug damage might make you creative but only in a pyschotic sense. and if in that state you cant write it down or transfer it to something then there isnt much point.

I don't know. Most of my favorite artists can't support themselves with music. They need to do something else on the side. It's sad but the same goes for my friends who are actors, film-makers, writers, painters. A lot of them end up doing something related to the skills they've got (editing, writing for a magazine, illustrating stuff). But the world has no financial appreciation for art anyway.

I wish people could make a half-decent living from their art but I don't know if this is really that bad. One of my favorite writers once said that if she needed to write to survive, and it wouldn't be spontaneous and sincere anymore.

On one hand I know how much one can benefit from having structure to create art. On the other hand, less conditions do trigger creativity.

I want the choice to make music. I also want the choice not to do it when I don't feel like it. I am constantly turning down invitations for gigs, partnerships and the like. Because since I don't make my living that way, I'll do it my way and play/record where and when I want, whatever way I want to.

But that's, of course, just me.

Hmmm, give money to this bald-headed, shit-grinning suit for stock tips or the musician who produces the music I pumped in my car that 'sums up my life.'

i dont know how unless you pay the dentist like £250.

all the kits you can buy are scams, or if not simply ineffective can be quite dangerous.

if you figure it out let me know.
