Yeah, seems unlikely and I assumed it was being confused for that one too, but the reference to the MTV launch does support '81. He calls it "one of their first outside NY city limits", but that could apply equally to the Savage Blunder date.

Thurston Moore - "Canteloupe" (sic - mispelled in the tradition of some punk flyers, I guess; the artwork gets it right, though).

Cantaloupe is a song about the dance of romance and surrealism, where the hallucinations of wild dreams come true.

Not to keep going with the same damn thing, but again... This reminds me of an anecdote about Joe Strummer: at some point in the '90s, I believe, at the bar of a pub, Joe was chatting up this gal and asked her what her zodiacal sign was. A journalist who was around said, "Pfft, this guy's a hippie".

Fast-forward some years, very early '00s if I'm not mistaken (sorry, I don't have the magazine with me; Strummer died in 2002). That same journalist is assigned to interview the Clash man. Joe takes one look at him, and goes, "You're the guy who called me a fucking hippie!" And when it looked like Joe was gonna hit the reporter or something, he smiles, extends his hand and tells him, "Guilty as charged".
