I was giving the first Mars Volta album a spin the other day, its top quality stuff from beginning to end, but i disliked Frances The Mute so much i sold it for 50p. Seeing as you played one of the songs, do you reckon i was a bit swift with my call on that album? Listening to their stuff the other day made me wonder if id like Frances the mute if i bought it again

I don't actually like them, both too indie and too prog for my tastes overall. I had the 18 year old chick apprenticing again, and she says she loves that track more than anything. I found something else to do in the production studio while it was playing. She also picked out all of the doomy stuff though, which was cool, and I really like her energy and think she'll be a great dj who stretches out more over time. She was actually looking for the Nadja album I had picked something off of to play after the Sunn O))). That was a very interesting and encouraging bit of synchonicity. Scary that people born in 1991 are now in college...

mate, any 19 year old girl who likes The Mars Volta is alright by me. I doubt we're going to find many fit 19 year old girls who like Jandek or Ashtray Navigations.

Deloused in the comatorium is top quality stuff, better than even At The Drive In's best work, and they were a great band. But I looked up some of the other stuff from Frances The Mute online the other day, and I wasnt unconvinced. If young women are listening to The Mars Volta, i see it as a plus for the likes of you and I, im 25, but frankly ive been an old man since the day i was born.
