Need advice on record labels

OK, I've been searching Google for record labels that I think would be interested in my band's music, but I haven't had any luck...

Please have a listen to my band's music via the link in my sig and make recommendations based on any knowledge you've got, or if you've got a label, let me know if you'd be interested...

Here's the indie labels I know and why they may not be interested...

Epitaph (we're not Cali-punk)
Century Media (mainly extreme metal oriented, although they've got Jucifer and Extol)
Saddle Creek (we're not emo)
Devil's Ruin (too rootsy)
Relapse (we're not experimental/noise metal)
Matador (doesn't accept unsolicited material-although our singer/bassist knows the sister of the drummer for Early Man)

NOTE: This isn't just a "hey, check out my music" thread in disguise. We are really trying to make the jump now but I don't know who'd be interested in our music. We're too heavy for a pop/rock label but not heavy enough for a metal label, too experimental for a straightforward music label but not experimental enough for a full-on experimental music label, and, with the exception of our drummer, not musically proficent enough for a prog label...

touch and go is still over-all my fav. lots of my fav albums were touch and go releases.

haha...if you were noise band id say look into the countless tape mini-labels poppin' up all over the place.

AND...dont listen to the hype...theres nothing wrong w/ "hey check out my music" threads. if you do something, and a want people to hear it, ya should do whatever it takes so that it reaches other people's ears.

touch n go only do back catalogue now, no new stuff.

Well, my opinion of Saddle Creek was largely shaped by seeing records by Audio Learning Center, Hey Mercedes, and Hot Rod Circuit in a SC mini-catalog I got in a CD by the Faint...

Haven't had a chance to listen, but you just described the ideal Sub Pop band a few years back. Of course that was a few years back. Problem is, record labels are a bit of a dying dinosaur right now. I don't even try to find anything bigger than the "friend who wants to list you in their catalog and put your My Space profile on their My Space profile and won't charge you anything for it" type label these days. Maybe some of those will grow with you, but there are no indies discovering new talent anymore. Sadly.

those bands aren't on saddle creek and never were.

try absolutepunk.net and look for labels in the forums.

Get a lawyer, (in every sense). when a label says they don't accept unsolicited demos then generally they mean they will only listen to stuff recommended to them from a business point of view, if you have impressed any promoters and are on good terms then ask them if they know anyone good, trustworthy and preferably young but not inexperienced, a publisher might also do this if you have the connects but as a rule you wouldn't want to wade into the world of publishers and labels without a lawyer on your team.

Yeah. A good rule at the very least is don't sign anything until you know exactly what it entails. Also, over-referenced and outfate or not, it might be of interest to read this, if you haven't already.

As to specific label recommendations, all I can really say is that aiming smaller is probably wiser until you're in a position to actually have some leverage when dealing with anyone bigger...
