Given the credits in the LP I purchased as well, I have to think the sandwich line stuff is probably Mike Patton. Only place I can identify that would be him, and it does sound like him.

Sounds like something he'd say too. As soon as I saw the words "Mike Patton" I was like "oh, ok. Makes sense."

I haven't been inspired to listen to anything remotely new basically for the past 2 months. sometimes I just feel like there's too much music. it's overwhelming and daunting.

classic rock is keeping me company though. most of this stuff I haven't listened to since god knows when but it still holds up.

forgot how amazing this album was. not new at all, but fuck it.

to be honest, this was released in late december of 2013. But this is possibly the new album I've listened to the most so far this year, besides Silver Mt. Zion.

Listen and/or buy it here: http://anonymouschoir.com/album/anon...-the-gold-rush

The lead singer is Nona, who's most known as the lead singer of Dark Dark Dark

Another album I don't own yet, but probably soon will is this one:

3 CD's worth of live CSNY. The 1974 tour was probably not their best, but it's still got some very fine performances on it.

You sound like you need a good old fashioned kick in the balls no-nonsense modern no-wave masterpiece that grabs you by the balls immediately and doesn't require much thought. I know how you feel. It's why Black Bug's Reflecting The Light felt like a gift from the gods last year.

Might I suggest the album "9 Songs" by new comers Dub Thompson?
It didn't get a lot of recognition, but I had it ranked in my top five of the year before I was finished listening to the first half for the first time.

Different kind of gift from god than Black Bug's industrial post-punk horror onslaught; more of a tape hissy, lofi-til-we-die, classic no-wave noise-rock record. Really an impressive offering from such a young band.

On the inner cover of the digipack pressing from Dead Oceans, it has a photo of the two band members frenching. Two nerdy dudes making out. You can tell that they have what it takes to be a memorable force in indie punk.

Ambarchi / Campbell / Flower - Live at TUSK Festival 2013 kicks ass.

Likewise the cassette reissue of last year's self-titled La Morte Young LP (nb - that isn't a mis-spelling).

I've been feeling that way for about the past 5 years so I decided fuck the new shit, I'm just going to continue to enjoy the several hundred albums I currently own and selectively add a handful a year of what really really grabs my attention. My brain is at max capacity like Kelly Bundy and frankly I'm not interested in replacing the music that is already in my brain with new music.

New Shabbazz Palaces is fucking insane too.

Someone once argued passionately in favor of SPs being the "Radiohead of Hip-Hop." At the time I said "nah, it's FlyLo or Kanye or Dilla" but Lese Majesty actually sounds like fucking Radiohead at moments! Beyond that, it even sounds like fucking Liars sometimes! It's almost a non-hip-hop specific affair, really.

I thought Black Up! was an excellent album; but I definitely liked it more in 2011 than I do now. I blame my homies LOUDER & NOISEREDUCTIONS for pulling me out of my “avant-hip-hop only!” phase and back into an unapologetic appreciation of any & all hip-hop that made my brain feel good, regardless of how mainstream it is, or how “shallow” the über-literati white male masses may feel it may be. It's hard to be a hip-hop purist, since so much of the political/collective/underground shit is so much less appealing than the baller anthems about "F**kin' Problems," whether or not "bitches" are among one's f**kin' problems, and to what extent these bitches exasperate already f**kin' problematic relationships by being gold-diggers.

Anyway, the album was good, but it was a little too overhyped for me to stomach, especially at the regional level. I've had some very public feuds with friends of mine from the Pacific Northwest, who post memes comparing SP lyrics to the chorus of "She Lives You" and offering it up as evidence that Shabazz Palaces are better than the Fucking Beatles. Seriously. The meme's are clearly a joke, like the Lil Wayne "a mili" sheet music vs. John Coltrane's A Love Supreme.... Pure hokey dumb bullshit, but those Washington folks will actually make serious arguments about SB being more influential than the god damn Beatles!!! I mean, yeah it was a good record, but even the suggestion that the two are comparable is an insult. Both to Sp's (who I'm sure don't feel that they are superior to the Beatles) and to the people who like them but DON'T think they walk on water.

Why? Seattle has produced so many great bands that have been utterly passed over by the hippest hipsters alive. Why SP's?

Anyway the new album is fucking good. They're not he Beatles though, so I apologize if any of you had your hopes up about hat one.

My top 5 of 2014 so far:

5) Container - Adhesive : (Industrial Techno) I'm not usually into this stuff but its so damn good. Can't resist shaking myself around like crazy everytime I put it on.

4) Yvette Young - Acoustics: (Acoustic math rock) This girl can play guitar like nothing I've ever heard. Her voice is a bit too 'disney princess' but the songs are so good I don't even care anymore.

3) Fire! Orchestra! - Enter!: (Jazzy Experimental rock?) Interesting stuff on this I like the jazziness.

2) Ichiko Aoba - 0% ((avant) folk, field recordings): Japanese live album of another acoustic guitarist. Listen if only for 'IMPERIAL SMOKE TOWN' you won't regret it.

1) Langdon Alger - Following the lizard queen (anti folk/folk punk/weird folk): An acoustic EP written from the perspective of an unknown simpsons character who becomes obsessed with Lisa Simpson, going to extreme lengths to stalk her. Can't recommend highly enough I think its only like a quid on bandcamp.
