I like "Hex Kitchen" the best. I like "One Thousand Aspects of the Moon" the least. Anything in between is awesome. My favorite thing is one of her collaborations, I can't remember who she collaborated with, but it's the band Synapse and the album is called "Raw". Really fucking great!

Yeah, death ambient is cool stuff, I've heard two albums by them...

But of course, DNA is the best.

Mori is a really good visual artist as well.

Tzadik rules.

I type in "Tzadik" into soulseek and randomly download things I haven't heard before often, and it's almost always good. Cyro Baptista is an amazing band on that label. Also, I'm surprised Time of Orchids doesn't get mentioned on this board more.

This thread has made me go and hunt out Death Ambient. I have the first release (s/t) and its excellent.

The bassist is Kato Hideki.

Btw, Cyro Baptista isn't a band. He's a percussionist.

Oh, I actually knew that, I meant to say "artist" instead of "band". Oh well, thanks for the clarify.

Tzadik Label Music Series III:
Ikue Mori - Celebrating 30 years of Life, Love & Music in NYC

Friday, March 21, 7:30 PM
Saturday, March 22, 7:30 PM

at the Japan Society

Curated by John Zorn. Presented in association with Tzadik Drummer,
composer & laptop wizard Ikue Mori moved to New York in 1977 and has
since launched a multi-faceted career as a musician. After forming
seminal no-wave band DNA with Arto Lindsay, Mori used drum machines
to create her own highly sensitive signature style of improvisation
and experimental music; she received the Distinctive Award for Prix
Ars Electronica Digital Music in 1999. Mori's activities in the realm
of music and media are wide-ranging and diverse, including performing
in several bands and collaborating with international artists. She
displays her versatile and virtuosic range over two evenings at Japan
Society.

March 21: Mori takes the stage with Bhima Swarga comprised of Mori,
Matt Welch and Gamelan Dharma Swara gamelan ensemble and accompanied
by video animation also by Mori, followed by a world premiere
collaboration between Mori and extreme vocal artist Makigami Koichi.

March 22: Mori's acclaimed solo over silent films by Maya Deren, as
presented at London's Tate Modern, makes its U.S. debut. Next, Mori
performs with two of her main collaborations: Phantom Orchard with
harpist Zeena Parkins and guest percussionist Cyro Baptista; and the
electro-acoustic trio Mephista with Sylvie Courvoisier (piano) and
Susie Ibarra (percussion).

Caught a Mephista set last Friday at the Stone. the trio version - really astonishing improvisation - after each piece there was dead silence - people were just blown away and didn't want to ruin the sonic space with applause. If you have the chance to see them do not miss it. I don't say this lightly.

I love ikue mori so much. She only has 4 albums I think. 4 or 5. Might as well get them all (obviously she has a lot more collaborative efforts).

I also highly rccomend KOBY ISRAELITE, another fellow TZADIK-er.

Her Phantom Orchard project with Zeena Parkins is excellent. I also second the Death Ambient stuff because Fred Frith is probably my favorite musician of all time.
