i've doubled the vocals but i'm not sure if i want to sing half the doubled part a step up and make it sound really psychotic.

Psychotic would be a half-step, but I don't think it'd be worth your time.

And no tambourines. Resist. Soon you'll be adding a cowbell and harpsichord, and nobody wants that. Minimalism for folk.
