What, you want a program like protools or something?
In that case you'd need something like an M-box or a new sound card with inputs for your computer. Which would be much more expensive than $100.

cheap but nice is an oxymoron when it come to audio software. for free you can get a prog called audacity but it doesn't sound that great. i would stick away from protools because its editing functionality is pretty average and m-audio and mbox sound card do not sound that good. if you want cheap and with some quality i would buy a small hardware four track rather than go down the software path. unless you are going to spend good money ie. a few thousand dollars you won't be geting something nice.

here are some to look up

cubase
digital performer
protools
pyramix

and sound cards

motu
rme
metric halo
digi 002 but these are big 2ru cards that take quite a bit of room, and the motu, rme and metric halo ones have more options for input and output in a 1ru unit. the motu traveller can be used as a stand alone digital mixer also which i use mine for that particular job also and it is solid.

lower end sound cards

protools mbox
maudio
edirol

and in the end after all that the signal is only as good as the cables and connections it travels through

neutrik
canare

you could buy a small console but i wouldn't bother, but if you are interested mackie do an all right analog firewire console which is ok it is called onyx

Get an M-box with the lastest version of Pro-Tools (they come together). When I bought it a few years ago I was able to haggle it down to about $450 or so (the retail price was $500 at the time), so im guessing now it should be less than that.

Its a little more than youre looking to spend, but just save up. Its worth it. Pro-tools (as im sure probably know) is basically what all the professionals are using these days and has become an industry standard. Really great software and Im finally taking a class on how to do everything with it.

protools was the industry standard, it isn't much anymore most of the big studios are using pyramix because it is alot more solid.

I had never even heard of pyramix before, I talk to a lot of music producers, and the last I heard pro tools was still widely used.

I used cubase and it looks not bad for home work but I found 2 bad things: one is that every track is double on screen( one is the wave track and the other one is the editable track) the second one is that looks this program add some "click" editing a track, for example while you are smooth the gain of a specific region and things like that....

Now I'm using again protools 7.3 that's good but practically the same of 6years ago when I used protools 5.0.1 on win98.

I'm looking for a good reverb plugin for protools mac version cause the default one is not good, someone could help me to get one for free?? thanks anyway

Do a search for Audacity, you can download that for free. It's certainly not Pro-Tools or even Audition, and it has the occasional scream at the wall glitch, but you can do more with it than a kid with a 4-track could ten or twenty years ago. Not a bad place to start fooling around. Viva la lo-fi.

I use Sound Forge/Coll Edit Pro/All Sound Recorder and all in a rough way.I open a basic track with a player and work on top of it.I try to use as much source material as possible without the use of effects but it ends up the way it does.

Thanks alot terminal pharmacy. just got the diamond bundle reverb plus plugins and it sounds good. The D-verb by digidesign is not good at all. Looking forward to get the foogers plugins again, they say the new analog delay plugin sounds very good.
