I'm going back one of these evenings because today it was a little too crowded. I'll send you a pm if you are free and want to meet up. Of the three, David Lynch's photographs were the ones I enjoyed the most because his subject is the most depressing but he managed to turn it into some great images to look at.

Cool.

I heard good things about the Warhol stuff, but more for providing a glimpse of New York at a certain time than for anything especially artistic. The Lynch stuff seems the most interesting as art but it's definitely Warhol's pics that I'm most interested in.

Went to the Photographer's Gallery exhibition that Genteel D raved about recently (see above), and excellent it was too. Both the Lynch and Warhol photos were v impressive (loved the environmental vibe of Lynch's photos), but my own personal pick would be the Burroughs stuff - some fascinating material from the archives (including drafts and first-cut manuscripts), and even a screening of "Towers Open Fire" too. Absolutely recommended to one and all.

Not a one off exhibition but I embraced my inner Indiana Jones today by going to the Egyptian rooms at the British Museum. One of the truly amazing (free) things to see in London that unfortunately seems more popular with tourists than with locals.

I will be going to an exhibition of Magritte's work at the Menil Collection in Houston.

https://www.menil.org/exhibitions/Magritte_Mystery.php

The DeMenil family collected a lot of surrealist art and championed Magritte when no one was buying his work.

Agreed. Tomorrow I'm going to see my doctor and I made a plan to go and visit The Royal London Hospital Museum because it only opens Tues-Friday until 4.30pm. I'm looking forward to check out Joseph Merrick's Elephant Man clothes and all that stuff. Hopefully I'm going to be able to take pictures too.

Some of the Burroughs' stuff was also on display at the exhibition of his artworks at the October Gallery in 2012.

I could spend a month in the library at the British Museum, in the Ethiopica section alone. I could at least spend a day or two here though

Ah, really? I wasn't able to make the October Gallery thing, unfortunately, so it was really good to see it this time round at the Photographers Gallery.

Yeah another on the list of 'tourist attractions' actually worth visiting. Was planning on going to the natural history museum at the weekend but got grounded by the mother of all colds.

Too my wife to the Menil Collection here in Houston Texas to see this exhibition of Magritte works from 1926-1938.

http://www.menil.org/exhibitions/Magritte_Mystery.php

fucking awesome. AWESOME. Magritte had the rare gift of being as surreal and weird as anyone, but with a "style" that disarms by it's seeming simplicity. Wonderful stuff. My wife and I got our minds blown repeatedly.

It was also great to see works in person that I had just seen in books and in art history classes

At the New Museum with Bob:

Laure Prouvost: For Forgetting

That was really nice even though it was VERY VERY small. It was very positive and reminded be a lot of Miranda July. There were videos and a lot of sound. It was a bit confusing because it was in such a small space, but if you managed to just listen to one thing it was wonderful and it made me feel very very good. Must try to find some of her work on the internet.

Pawel Althamer: The Neighbors

This one was a bit scary, especially the first floor. There were four videos and a whole room full of scary statues that were standing all over the room and kind of created a maze. I had a very hard time walking through it because there were so many and I was scared that I might knock them over.
I enjoyed the videos being in polish (english subs though).
There was one in which he talked to his daughter and it was really funny but also sad because he asked her what life would be like if she wasn't born and she (about 6 or 7 y/o??) said "easier for you".

went to Seattle and Bellevue Art Museums. Seattle I was most impressed with their collection of African masks, which, as many of the early abstract artists and cubists saw, are gorgeous sculptures that are contemporary in every way.

I am a bit surprised that these examples of cultural piracy have not been returned to their countries of origin...

Seattle will have a pretty sizable Miro show coming up, will miss that, regretfully....both paintings and sculpture.

..Bellevue had a really great modern craft show. Many different media, lots of nice stuff

I wasn't that into the exhibition while I was going around it but found myself thinking about certain bits of it all day afterwards.
