I never heard anyone complain about the PRICE of vinyl, nor of turntables. I think some people have CD collections and like collecting CD's is all. I tend to buy albums on CD and singles on vinyl myself. Though, I will buy vinyl albums if that's my only option (like with MELBOURNE DIRECT for instance.) But I would like SYR 7 and 8 on CD as I think they'd look nice on my shelf lined up next to SYR 1-6. |

I agree with that! So you might be bummed if they said it was CD only, right? |

Only a little bit. I prefer vinyl. I really do. But that's a discussion for another place & another time. I mean, at this point I definitely have more cd's than lp's at this point. (I worked in a used cd shop for 8 years...) When it comes down to it. If I really want to hear something I'll get to in whatever way I can. Be it vinyl, cd, mp3, cassette whatever. "Illegal" or not (as in downloads). I'm babbling... |

I hear ya.
I'm somewhere between CD's and mp3 player most of the time... but I tell ya, there's something special about throwing on my "Death Valley 69" single and hearing the crackling. So I understand the vinyl fetishism. I do. And like I said, I like to hunt down 7"s... but for the most part the collection is CD's, because, well I guess they're just easier. And now I'm babbling. |

Yeah, and they'd look even better with a 2-LP bootleg of SYR6 stuck in the middle! (This gets me thinking once again: Why don't some nice folks bootleg Sonic Youth CD-only releases onto vinyl for hardcore fans the way they do with Misfits releases...?) |

vinyl sounds better than any digital format with the right needle on your turntable with a decent stereo system and speakers its not that expensive but its understood why someone would steer away from the vinyl format. though the other plus about vinyl is how awesome the artwork looks in a 12" X 12" sleeve versus a small cd insert... the compactibility of the cd is nice, even great in a car but is becoming obsolete due to the mp3/itunes wave of lesser "sound quality" music and it nearly costs as much as a cd, plus these digital formats are not geared for collecter freaks and then the artwork... what artwork???

I'd have to argue with you on that--at least in regards to home storage. I actually find it easier to conveniently store the larger LPs than I do CDs. CDs always require purchasing yet another plastic 'filing cabinet' of some type or another--never matching the last one purchased; or having to stash them away in cardboard boxes or the like (or in multiple tiers on a shelf designed for records), where one has to dig through them like bubbles in a prize machine in order to find what he or she is looking for. They can become goddamned annoying. |

One of the channels on my turntable was crapping out so I had this company replace the cables and it sort of half worked so in a last ditch I changed the cartridge yesterday and everything sounds so nice now, cartridges seem to die out (and this is in addition to the stylus), the electronics get weary or degrade due to moisture or something. But even with the snap and crackle on the older vinyl I still think its better to listen to than digital. They lied to us about Cds on many levels (they'll last forever, they're indestructible, they cost $20 to make), so why wouldn't they lie to us about how great they sound.

The seventh installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental + sometimes instrumental releases will be available on April 2008 in a vinyl-only edition self-released on the band's own SYR label.
The A-side, ‘J’accuse Ted Hughes’ is a previously unreleased 22 minute drone-piece recorded by Sonic Youth at the All Tomorrows Parties Festival in the UK April 2001. At ATP the band previewed instrumental and early versions of songs from the then soon-to-be recorded 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' and performed this premiere + exclusive performance of 'J'accuse Ted Hughes'. The B-side, 'Agnes B Musique' is a soundtrack-style piece recorded at the band's own Murray Street Studio in 2001 for a never-to-be realized collaboration with French clothing designer Agnes B. This 18 minute long musical piece was recorded with a 5-piece version of SY, the 4 members of SY being joined by Jim O'Rourke who also mixed 'Agnes B Musique'. |

Lee told me today, that one of the SYRs (they have two comming out) will be with Mats Gustafsson, but not one from Paris ´07 (show from Grande Hale Villette where they played with him as well). Anyone have any idea which one could it be then?
